From Supervisor to Super Leader: How to Break Free from Stress and Build a Thriving Team That Gets Results

Simple, helpful resource for managers/leaders who want to improve
Full disclosure: I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest reviewI found this book chock full of good advice for how to improve as a leader. Each of the 9 practices discussed is relevant for those who manage or lead teams and is presented in a very accessible way with short, easy-to-read chapters broken out into nuggets that you can quickly read and digest even if you only have a little bit of time to dedicate to it at a time. "Key takeaways" at the end of each chapter remind you of the important elements covered in that chapter so that you can make sure you "got" the key information in that chapter before you move on to the next. The author builds on the work of many of the popular management gurus who write about leadership, high-performing teams, productivity, coaching, etc. to come up with 9 practices that can help anyone connect with themselves, lead their teams and "manage up" to build and sustain positive relationships with THEIR leaders. Perhaps most importantly for today's stressed-out managers, the author's assures us that teams that follow these practices can be high-performing and still achieve a nice work-life balance - something all leaders should probably aspire to for themselves and their team members.Recommended!

Great book!
I applied to promote at my current job & wanted to purchase a book that could help me prepare for my hopefully transition to supervisor. This book provided me with such great ideas on how to be a great supervisor! It had wonderful input on how to develop my goals as a new (hopeful) supervisor; how to build my team & how to create a beneficial relationship with my boss. I have already recommended this book to my boss & other colleagues.

Can't recommend enough!
I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review:So honestly, this isn't the kind of book I would normally read. I generally want to be entertained, not educated. Imagine my surprise when I WAS entertained as well as educated. I wish I had read this book 20 years ago! The book is extremely well organized and gives references to further reading so if a subject catches your interest, you can move on and learn more about it. I love the way the author uses examples from her own career to illustrate points and drive home mistakes I know I have made as well. Anyone who wants to be a good supervisor or a good employee can benefit from the lessons in this book. You will not be disappointed if you read it, I know I certainly wasn't. Thanks Ms. Miller for giving me the opportunity to enjoy your book.

Great resource to encourage leaders.
I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review: This is an excellent resource for any current or aspiring leader. Shanda walks you through scenarios, provides options for applying the skills discusses, points to additional resources for further study, and recaps each chapter for an easy refresher. She presents the material in such a way that I was able to identify opportunities to improve my leadership skills within minutes of beginning a chapter. This is a fast read, with fast results if you're willing to challenge yourself. Lastly, I've worked with Shanda, and she had practiced these skills long before undertaking this project. She's passionate about team performance and it shows both on the job and in this book.

Good guide to key leadership concepts
I am in a management position, but am always looking for additional tools to help me "Lead" my team. This book was a VERY EASY read, broke down some key elements of leadership into easy steps, and provided a considerable amount of insight into the leadership process. The author highlights the important take-home points with examples and some suggested exercises. The exercises were actually helpful and informative. I found the information easier to retain, and apply to my business life, after doing the exercises. It is not a textbook, and may lack a little, in terms of evidence supporting the concepts, but it seems to stay true to most leadership concepts discussed by other authors. I think that it is a "great" book for those that are early in their journey of trying to develop leadership skills, and a "very good" book for those leaders that need a reminder of some basic critical concepts of leadership.I easily read it in a day, and tried a few of the suggested approaches with my team. I was impressed with the results. My team responded just as the author suggested.
