Works fine with my FT-897 using Win7 64 bit. You may need ferrites to prevent damage if RF in shack
I bought this cable to connect my FT-897 and matching LDG model AT-897 tuner to the computer for saving settings to Chirp and using programs like Ham Radio Deluxe. It works exactly as it should. My Win7 64 bit machine added the FTDI drivers automatically through Windows Update. All was up and running in a matter of minutes. This is my second cable. The first one, along with the FT-897's CAT circuitry, was damaged when I was testing an end-fed long wire antenna through a 9 to 1 un-un and ended up with RF in the shack or perhaps common mode current. The only thing I and anybody else I've consulted can figure is that the Valley cable acted like an antenna or counterpoise and the RF damaged both the radio and the cable. I purchased the second ten-foot cable with the idea of having sufficient length to make chokes on either end with mix 31, 0.750" split beads from DX Engineering. This will let me make a few turns through the beads because of the 10 feet of length.I had to send the radio back to Yaesu for repair. Thankfully, the ATU was not damaged but the Valley cable was only recognized by the computer (as COM6) on my system but the cable's circuitry to transfer data was blown. All is now working but I won't be using HRD or any logger while transmitting until I can get the split beads to make the chokes.73 N3GBJ

If you need to break out a specific signal from this cable - DO NOT BUY IT
The seller of this cable expects you to use their product as is. But this is Ham radio we'll talking about - modifying equipment and building stuff is what you do. I needed to tap into the Push To Talk PTT signal so I could use it for other reasons. The DIN connector pin out has 8 pins and you would think 8 wires to carry the signals. After I cut the cable in two, there were only 4 wires. The manufacturer uses a chip set and software to accomplish the equivalent functionally. Live and learn...

Exceeds Expectations!!!!
From the moment I plugged the cable into my computer and then into my radio, all of the interactive abilities was clearly evident. Even has the two mini LEDs to let you know that the computer is communicating with the radio. A very good purchase and I would recommend this to anyone that would be considering saving a bit of money for a cheaper cable. Don't. Get this one and save yourself the headache.

Truly plug-and-play!
Worked right out of the bag on my Windows 7 64-bit machine (instructions listed a website with drivers, but didn't need them). It did take a few minutes to complete, but it worked with Ham Radio Deluxe (the USB connection was emulated as COM4 by default on my machine). Much less painful than i expected given what a pain hardware and software can be these days. Nice to control my Icom FT897D from the PC keyboard rather than leaning over to twiddle knobs :)

Excellent service and qaulity cable
This cable arrived in just three days. Build qaulity is excellent and there are red & green led indicators.Instalation was a breeze ( did not even have to use driver website -windows installed drivers already on my pc automatically). The USB part is molded one piece ( will not come apart) and connects to the Yaesu ft-897D with no problems. You can even change baud rate and latency speeds on your PC and Ham Rig with no issues uesing HAM RADIO DELUXE.The package arrived in bubble wrap and inside a plastic bag neatly wound.I highly recommend VALLEY.

Works beautifully
This cable works great on all of my computers (HP Laptop and home-grown desktop). Item as described, quick shipping (2 1/2 day turnaround). As far as installation and function the FTDI chip-set in this cable seems MUCH better than the Prolific chip-set (which many of the "cheaper" cables you'll find have). I just downloaded and installed the drivers as instructed and it just worked (I never could get the "newest" Prolific drivers to work on my other "cheaper" cable). I fired up my Yaesu FT-857D with several programs and the cable is great!
