An excellent read.
Ms Beers stretches her writing chops with Olive Oil and White Bread. This is not another girl next door HEA romance. No, this is a story of life. The good, the bad, the happy and sad events that are far more reflective of our true lives and relationships than any girl meets girl fairy tale.Scrape off the sugar coating of that HEA and we are faced with the challenge of making our relationships work. If there is a theme in this novel it is that successful relationships take work.Give and take and compromise all come into play in an successful coupling.I read the story of Jillian and Angie as they weathered all the moments in their combined lives and I kept thinking that their relationship is reflective of all relationships whether straight or same sex. All couples go through many phases and stages in their lives together. How they handle the ups and downs thrown at them by an ever changing set of circumstances determines how much satisfaction each partner will derive from the relationship. Great food for thought.I was also impressed once again by Beers effortless writing style. There are no dull or dry chapters filled with information the reader has to slog through to get to the good bits. The story moves as quickly as the historical moments in history it parallels. Olive Oil and White Bread is a hard book to put down.An excellent read.

One of Ms. Beers' finest...
I wasn't sure about this one going in. I love a good romance, but I'm also a realist. I was kind of expecting a sappy HEA lasting twenty years. Not even close. And wow, was I shocked at how much I love this book. It is such a realistic portrayal of the work it takes to keep a long-term relationship going. And of the damage we can do to each other by taking one another for granted. It's about the pain you can cause the one you love simply by being too casual and careless. And about working to alleviate that pain rather than giving up. This ranks right up there with Too Close to Touch as Georgia's best work and an all-time fave. What a lovely surprise.

Georgia Beers Rocks!
Georgia Beers is one of my two favorite Lesbian authors. I'm constantly checking for new Georgia Beers arrivals. .I always pour through books at breakneck speed. Then, even knowing the ending,, I spend enormous amounts of time. reading a second time.. "Olive Oil & White Bread" Is a book to savor. There are so many messages to take away from this book. Perhaps the greatest message is that love takes work. Love takes forgiveness. There is a part of this book that brought tears to my eyes. I must admit when I re-read the book I skipped that part. But that part is etched in my mind. I leave it to you to find a part that brings tears to your eyes. The book is well worth the tears. Georgia Rocks!

... her books and there were a few that I enjoyed but would not revisit
I have read most of her books and there were a few that I enjoyed but would not revisit. This one, however, is one that I will certainly revisit some time. Unlike one of the reviewers, I appreciated the development of the 20+ years. They seemed like a "real" couple who went through some difficult relationship challenges. I can recommend this book without reservations.

Gifted writer writes really good romance novels for women about women.
Recommend this book by this particular author because she is for real. Love the subject material she writes and love how it is written simply entertaining and a romance book of fiction with elements of truth that is in everyone's life; and she reminds us all what reality we face on a daily basis, sometimes it isn't pretty or makes sense but it is what we have in common with all of humanity. Love is love there is no gender bias.

Good read!
I like the span of time on this novel and the development of the characters. It was an actual, interesting story not just anatomical descriptions of intimacy that go on page after page.

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to read about a "real life" couple experiencing life's highs and lows. I know a lot of people read lesfic to escape real life but this was a nice change to be able to see that life isn't always glamorous but those that are willing to try to make things work will succeed if the want to is there.

Amazing
Georgia Beers has done what so many authors who write about love and relationships aim to do...provide a realistic and engaging answer to the question, what happens after two people fall in love? I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed spending time with these characters. Bravo Georgia!

I could'nt wait for this book to come out(As with all Georgia's books). This story is so different to all the rest, and she has pulled it off.It tells the tale of a couple who have been together for a long time, and deals with how routine relationships become.I would dare anyone to say that a long term partnership dosent, especially with both people working and everyday life.Well worth the read, but beware,it's not a tale to take you to a world of escape,it's life as it is!

I love Georgia Beers but this book was a breath of fresh air. Looking at the on going relationship after the initial flush of romance and excitement of a new love. The reality of a long term relationship and the hardship of sometimes making it work. It also showed how a long lasting relationship can be just so good with the love of family and pets and just knowing the other person so well and setting up a home together. It also shows us that in any relationship communication is key.

Different but great
I found this a slow starter and I almost gave up. However it gathers pace and is a very true to life expression is most long term relationships with the ups and downs, joys and heartbreaks. Another great one from Georgia

Lots of tears.
It was so nice to read a book that showed the reality of so many of our relationships. The ups and downs we go through in life, the changes in the world as we move through our time on this earth and the love we share with family and friends, as well as the one who is our "destiny". I cried as the sad and the happy. I now want a dog again, as I always do after reading a Beers book. Nice work Georgia, I will look forward to reading the next one.
