Innovative slicker brush makes short work of grooming!
When this slicker brush arrived, it was obvious that it was well made and sturdy, which had been a concern with another well known brand I had ordered and returned. After taking it out of the package, which was simple to do, I noticed there were no instructions as to how to make the bristles retract to clean them. There is a prominent button on the back, with a spring underneath it, but I pressed and pressed with nothing happening. When holding the brush in one hand, I pressed the button with my thumb and poof, the plastic guard slid forward easily, retracting the bristles. Without realizing it, I had been holding the sides of the brush with one hand while pressing with the other, which prevented the two parts from sliding. Don't make my mistake! I tried the brush on a couple of my cats, one who purred contentedly and the other, more sensitive, was rather twitchy until I realized you could push the button with your thumb while brushing, thus retracting the bristles a little, making it even more gentle. If you push the button in all the way, the needles will retract completely, leaving the fur to be disposed of. The other thing I like about this brush is that the head is mounted on a pin that goes through the U-shaped ends of the handle (think of a slingshot shape or the swiveling head of a manual razor). This allows the brush to pivot and move, following the shape of the animal, which would make it even more comfortable for your pet.

WOW, It works very well. I wish I had designed it!
I have a 150 pound Yellow Lab and I haven't been able to find his brush since this spring. The only 2 items I had to help with the shedding were a vacuum powered upholstery attachment for my Shark vac or the narrow nozzle attachment for my Craftsman shop vac. He enjoyed either as it helped him to get rid of some hair. Then Amazon has this "Dog Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush". I knew I needed a brush, and I was sure I wanted a self cleaning style with the size of Zane and the amount of hair he sheds. This brush is fantastic. I'm educated as an engineer but I don't believe that I could have designed a better dog brush. It's either polymer or stainless so it will be fine before, during or after a bath. I haven't had it that long so the only statement I can make as to durability is again from my engineering background. It appears to be very well constructed. The quality and temper of the stainless steel teeth is very important for a self-cleaning design and from what I have seen so far from dragging it through Zane's coat there was no bending of the teeth. This brush is precisely what I was looking for and at such a low price point. I was very impressed.Christopher & "Zane" Hager

Happy pets, and a cleaner home!
I seldom write reviews for products, that being said I think this product was worth reviewing. I was incredibly happy with this product, so much so that I gave my first one to my father for our aging family dog who had a very thick coat and shred profusely. (She had arthritis and was very unhappy with previous brushes- You could tell by the way she looked at you, not to mention previous attempts to "escape" despite her arthritis). She would happily let me or my family brush her with this product, and the clean-up was easy and impressive given how much undercoat this helped remove! The only disappointment came when I got back on amazon.com to re-purchase one for my dog (who also LOVES this product)! I have had dogs/cats my entire life, but never have I had ALL of my pets so fond of one brush. This was a very happy investment for my family's numerous dogs and cats, all of which crowd me for attention while I am brushing one of them. My time brushing my pets is the only time I can get them to stay still and I have never once had to restrain any of them to try and get out any of their undercoats to decrease the amount of shedding left inside the house. Happy pets, and a happy owner with a cleaner house and less lent rolling before work!

The large size of the brush is wonderful, & I believe enhances its gentleness
I was really loving this brush for the short time that it worked without failing. The large size of the brush is wonderful, & I believe enhances its gentleness. My 2 Border Collies both hate to brushed. I found that they both seemed to be tolerating this brush better than the others I've tried to using on them. I have to brush my dogs each time I let them out, its self cleaning design is a real time saver & was working great, until it failed to re-align with the wire bristles during operation, bending them to where it would no longer function. It seems that its large size of the brush may enhance its gentleness, but it has also made re-aligning the many wire bristles with the plates tiny holes, to demanding for the loose tolerances of the moving plate‘s design. The travel stroke length involved with the moving plate is critical, the brush I was sent, allowed the bristles to completely exit the bottom of the plate and come completely out of their holes as it was being operated. I don’t think that this is meant to happen.

This is awesome! My roommate, her dog, my dog, my cat, and I all love this brush.
This brush is AWESOME!!!!! My roommates dog hates to be brushed, he is a Lhasa Apso so he really needs it, you might be able to get him when he's not looking once, maybe twice if he's watching someone do anything with food. However with this brush, he will let me brush his entire back. I will sit down to brush my dog or my cat, which likes this brush more then any other brush I have tried with her, and my roommates dog will come over to me and wait in line to get his back brushed. I have to be really careful as he is a very old dog and has some sores on his back but he lets me brush him. The first time my roommate saw me brush him she was in shock, she has had him for 11 years and she has never been able to brush him. Vets and professional groomers have issues brushing him as well, it usually takes about three to four people to hold him down and with this brush he just sits there for me. My roommate uses this brush as often as she can to try and brush out his fur, he doesn't let us brush more then his back but it's something.
