Unlike sand perches this perch is actually safe for your bird.The rough surface doesn't hurt your birds feet and (from what I'm told) won't cause bumble foot. Also it's perfectly safe for your bird to chew on it as the shell is digestable and a source of calcium.My baby cockatiel is discovering he can chew on it as we speak!So good source of calcium. Good replacement for sand perches on nail management. Decent thickness to provide your bird an additional width of perch to keep their feet exercising.Got recommended this by BirdNerdSophie and I'm incredibly happy with the purchase.

The Deets:- I have a 170g baby male galah.- This is for a cage with 1" bar spacing.- I purchased this in the hopes of keeping his nails groomed (after all, it's in the product description).Pros:- Came with nice big diameter washers. (You'd be surprised how desperate you become for wide washers when you upgrade to 1" bar spacing.)- It's a perch, alright. And it's made of shells.- Shell coating was rough but not sharp and hey calcium!Cons:- Most assuredly DID NOT keep his nails groomed. Not even a little. Let me expand, this was a replacement for a natural sand perch. I placed it in front of his food dish so he would use it often (and he did.) His nail grew at what I would call x-men mutant rates giving me a sweet armful of awesome scarification designs. I put that sand perch back in a month later, and they were dull again in 3 days.SO, as much as I feel it's strange to give a perch 3 stars.. I mean it's a perch and it works for perching... it failed so miserably you could probably call it Windows Vista <cue badum tshh>. Hey, after all, it's is an ADVERTISED feature.

I'm a bird amateur, but it seemed great for what it was, and pretty much as I expected. I thought it was a naturally made branch, but I think it is man made from natural substances. Not sure. I do wish the hardware included like rubber or plastic washers, to make the metal on metal (cage bar) situation more secure. I did move it around slightly until finding a nice secure spot for it tighten firmly on. All good.

This perch does a reasonably good job of keeping my parrot's toenails and beak trimmed down. Because of its rough texture, it's best not to put it where the parrot will perch often-- it's not gentle on the feet, so it's better placed where the parrot will only stand on it occasionally.

My birds are gravitating toward their seashell branch and using it to full advantage. They work their beaks and pick at the bits of mineral. I feel great knowing that they are getting the benefit of conditioning their beaks and talons, exercising their feet over the different shapes and diameters, and getting their calcium. The birds look really good perched on them too. I like the more natural look in the cage.

Bird likes sitting on it. Seems to be its favorite perch. It is hard to think of a lot to say about a bird perch.

My parakeets seem to think it's OK

My little boy just loves this perch. Whenever he's in his cage, he's "perched" on it. It's rugged and has lasted a long time. Would buy another.
