The Ez Box Cutter 4000 Series is an excellent tool. I work in retail and use it every day and it has performed flawlessly. I was skeptical at first. When I received the cutter I was a little disappointed because it seemed like a cheap plastic product, but I was definitely wrong. It is actually built very well and everything works just as advertised. Also I have been impressed by its little blades, they are very sharp, easily cuts heavy cardboard, and you get a fair amount of use between changes. I am very happy with this purchase. Will probably purchase another one.

Safety
I like how the easy cut 4000 comes with holster and lanyard, I use this safety knife at work for cutting open packages.

Great quality, affordable boxcutter!
This boxcutter is used by me daily and it serves me well in a big box store on a stocking team. I recommend buying blades with this boxcutter, and you’ll be good to go! 10/10

Okay.
Gets the job done but the auto retract feature is so annoying. If it hits a box the wrong way it will go back in.Maybe it’s okay for at home use.But definitely not a job with a lot of boxes.

Stick with the 2000, I think.
So I deal with a lot of cardboard on a daily basis and my workplace does not issue EasyCuts any more because they were too expensive, and instead issue those one-piece letter opener safety cutters. I went to Amazon and found an array of EasyCuts and decided I'd try this one out.Going from the 2000 to the 4000, the immediate difference is the holster. It's as long as the cutter itself and the belt clip is positioned all the way back near the cut depth dial. It's a bit of a pain to get it on and off whatever you clip it to (in my case, an actual belt) because you have no area to put your ring and pinkie fingers to get a good grasp, instead only being able to use your thumb and first two fingers. The cutter will go into the holster blade-first in either orientation, though one way seems to lock more securely than the other. There is a loop for the lanyard on both the top and bottom so that it can be slung underside when used left or right handed. The 4000 holster is missing the lock feature of the 2000 holster, though not of consequence to me personally because I only ever flipped it on by accident. The 4000 does not fit into the 2000 holster. The cutter itself is no big difference if you've ever used an EasyCut before, though there is the distinct addition of a "safety" retracting blade. If you depress the trigger too fast, you trip it and the blade immediately retracts again. If the blade meets resistance, it will complete the cut as long as resistance is maintained but will immediately retract when the resistance disappears, What this means in a nutshell is that any cut you make with it causes the blade to retract, meaning something like opening a box is a process of:1) Depress trigger2) Make cut3) Lift cutter, blade retracts4) Completely release trigger5) Repeat from 1From a strictly safety standpoint it makes some sense because you aren't swinging a blade around for something like three consecutive cuts on an H-taped box and it makes you a little more conscious of the blade state, but you have to train yourself to keep letting go of and re-pressing the blade trigger for each consecutive cut.Overall it is a perfectly functional cutter, but I would not say the safety features are doing it any favors.

One major deal breaking flaw
The auto retracting blade is a very useless feature, its not any safer, and why auto retract when its going to auto retract anyway when you holster it. This only causes you do make multiple cuts when you should only need to make one. i spend all day getting frustrated every time this blade retracts by itself before im done making MY cut. Let me decide when to stop cutting, not the tool.

I dont give 5 stars for everything but...
This is an awesome box cutter. The auto retract feature takes some getting used to but for someone who uses a box cutter often and has cut themselves doing so, this is a breath of fresh air cutting with confidence. The clip broke early on once but customer service responded IN MINUTES! I got two replacement clips quickly for the inconvenience. Way to go

Built to last
Company i worked for stopped providing easycuts knives, good thing i found the easycut 4000 here. Definitely worth the price. Love how the blade retracts with each cut, makes it very safe.
