Originally inspired by tired feet at the end of the Badwater 135, the Altra Paradigm continues to innovate with the updated 4.5. This max-cushion shoe features the performance of the Altra EGO midsole and the comfort of a knit upper. This shoe stands out from the crowd with its unique take on guidance with integrated StabiliPods for a stable platform and a GuideRail system for guiding support when you need it, but not when you don't. The asymmetrical design with medial flaring increases lateral support for weak or tired feet and is great for both neutral runners and those looking to upgrade from over structured "traditional stability" options.

awesome shoe
I'm a casual, un athletic - to semi athletic runner, so these shoes were totally different and new to me. I really enjoy the zero drop aspect as it seems to improve my form and reduce my knee pain SIGNIFICANTLY. The cushion is nice as well, which ultimately means i can run more days a week without pain. I wasn't expecting this but the zero drops are definately working my calves more, which is pretty evident in definition. Coming from the nikes, these shoes took a few minutes to get used to be because they're so much wider and stable. I like to imagine the wide toe box seems to encourage a more forward foot roll as opposed to my duck feet, but that could just be totally imaginary.Breathability, these shoes are awesome. If I leave them in the sun you can see the light grid shining thru the top of the shoe onto the sole. Between the high breathability, and wide toe box these shoes definately seem to reduce blisters and hot spots for me. Despite the wide toe box the shoe grips my feet pretty well and I seem to have very minimal sliding.Sizing, with proper length these shoes seem to squeeze the midfoot a bit more. for width I prefer these a half size too long, which solves the midfoot width squeezing. Didn't increase sliding too much for my road shoes. For trail runners I'm not sure which I would do for optimize downhill sliding.

Excellent space in the toebox!
I have a tailor's bunion and after researching, decided to try Altra running shoes. It has lots of space in the toebox. I can even wear toe spacers and don't feel my toes rubbing against the inside of the shoe. The fit is exactly as expected, but go to the Altra website and download their sizing chart. That's the best way to pick your shoe size.It has a fair bit of cushion and is snug in the heel/arch area. It is not a minimalist shoe, if that's what you want. But it IS a zero-drop shoe. I really like it, I wear them all the time. Good air flow too. Unfortunately, now that my feet are used to spreading out properly, I can't wear any of my other shoes, because they feel like they are crushing my feet. I guess I have to buy more Altras then.

Best walking and running shoe I have ever worn.
I love everything about this shoe. I have purchased 3 pairs of 4.5s locally but they are discountined. Tried the new 5.0s and didn't like them so I bought 3 Paris from Amazon at $50 under local retail to get me through to the 5.5s.I have some neuropathy from nerve damage in my back due to a disc explosion. These have wide toe box and the zero drop takes a significant amount of pressure off my toe. Most shoes have a heel that is higher than the toes like a ramp. These are different. You need to know that as it may seem wierd for some of you when they are first worn. Also these are running shoes and not cross trainers.. There is very limited lateral support so these are horrible for activities that require "cutting".

8th time is the charm
I've ordered and returned 7 other pairs of shoes in under 90 days. These are keepers. They are lightweight and ultra comfortable with an ample toe box. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are a little shy in the heel support department, but I should be able to rectify that with the appropriate inserts.I have found that almost all manufacturers that I used to wear are making their shoes cheaper and narrower. They certainly don't appear to be sized for American feet any longer. I am of the firm belief that shoes should never ever have to be broken in. If they are not comfortable the moment you put them on, they are not for me.

Feel like they are made just for me.
An exquisite shoe, Altra’s paradigm 4.5 fits like its individually crafted for your foot. It encapsulates, without binding your foot. The cushion allows a detailed feel of the terrain, while it gives traction on your stride’s push off, preventing jarring or jolting on ground contact. The construction and cushion layering creates a feeling of tensile shock absorption transitioning to driving compression on the lift cycle of your stride. Perhaps it is best described as striding on Oobleck , you never lose control, stability, or power throughout your step, yet your joints never really feel impact or pressure. I am searching for a back-up pair for when my current pair give out. I am sure the new 5.0 Paradigms are great given my experience with Altra; I am just not ready to give up a shoe this comfortable.

good
This is a good shoe for comfort and walking. The sole is spongy, but firm so it provides great comfort and protection for your feet, but I had some pain in metatarsal area. The toe box style also provides more room and comfort for the toes.

Good narrow heel and wider knuckle area
These shoes fit my ducky flipper feet very well. Personally if they widened out an inch earlier/closer to the heel it would be even better but they are still the best sneakers I’ve put on in decades. They say they are “foot-shaped”...but whose foot? How could ANY shoe fit all length and heel-width and knuckle-width all at the same time for all people? Impossible. What these DO have is a nice narrow heel cup, and generally room on the outside edges that most shoes just chop off. Normally my foot knuckles are in a vice grip and falling off the outside edge of shoes, these shoes fit much better for my foot shape. Not perfect, but better. Also better than some of the other altra models I tried: the timp was too narrow, lone peak is good but more wide all the way down without the fitted heel, and the other Altra running models I tried at REI were pointier. One problem for me is that the tongue somehow bangs into my ankle in a very odd jabbing way. Very very weird feeling. It would be a deal breaker if the bottoms of my feet didn’t fit so well and feel so stable. As it is, I sliced them away on the sides and try to get the tongue to lie at an angle...I have no idea if this bizarre tongue fit is unique to me because I didn’t read about it in other reviews so maybe it won’t bother you.On the down side, after wearing these for a couple weeks I put on my usual pair of boots and felt as though my mid-foot was on someone’s workbench, closed in a vice grip.

Ottimo

👟 Highly recommended footwear!
They are the most comfortable trainers I have ever had. They are very expensive but the price is worth it. I have a replacement in a different colour so I always have a pair on hand. Satisfied with the purchase.

Great men shoes can be wear by women too!!
I have flat feet with bunion and metarsalgia too ,I searched alot for shoes in India but availability of good shoes is minimum in India ,I 1st purchased mizuno inspire 16 however they were too tight at the forefoot so I discontinued them and because of my deformity I needed wide shoes with maximum cushions so that it can't hurt my foot and also maximum space to place orthotics but finding such shoes in India is like mining diamonds from the earth's surface so I started looking for various shoes which are available on Amazon ,I have no relatives or friends who live abroad so I didn't got the shoes so easily after long search I found Altra brand then this model it's perfectly wide however Altra shoes are always wide , moderate cushioning and don't hurt my feet now even I can fit my orthotics in it ,I use them for walks and while going to market they look awesome but bit wide, however Altra has not launched women's range shoes in India so I am looking forward to the launch ,until then I will wear men's shoes in which are purchased 7 UK I guess it's 26.5 cm in Altra shoes ,great shoes !!! Thanks to Altra looking for Altra olympus 3.5 to come back in stock and also women shoes launch ,till then I will wear men's shoes !!):

Great running shoe for hard impact runners
These are amazing shoes for the runner looking for a low impact trainer. Very well cushioned. The only downside of this version is the hard plastic molding on the inside heel of the outer sole that will cut your ankle if you’re not careful. The shoes are not very wide, although the to box is exaggerated the mid shoe is tight.
