Rambling Independent sound recordist.
I have yet to use this particular one 😅 out in the field but I have used one like it before Tascam is a decent brand for the independent filmmaker on a budget that doesn't have the 500 to get a (Zoom,Roland, or Sound Device ect.) I have done my fair share of independent film, I a few years back got me a 8 channel Roland R-88 it's extremely heavy even for a 8 channel especially now days, I had a ZOOM H4N at the time it broke on me twice the last time was after the warranty was over and it was beyond repair. I have been stuck due to budget using my cinder block of a 8 channel on shoots that just called for a just boom op/mixer, or 2 lavs. It was rough, so I figured I'd pick up a Tascam like the one my college had and I had recently worked with on a indie set they are lighterwieght and seem decently made for the price.

Great for recording nature sounds
I've been using this for recording nature sounds outside and it does an amazing job. I was surprised at how much detail it picks up. With the mics pointed outward, the file ends up sounding like it's in surround even though it's only stereo. I would recommend getting a wind cover for outside work, though. It picks up even the tiniest breeze as a hurricane. I haven't used the multi track recording component of it, so I can't vouch for any of that. I will say the interface isnt the best in an era of touchscreens and retina displays, but it gets the job done. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Works perfectly, as expected.
The product works great, with an easy to learn UI. Battery usage will vary with how you use the device but for me, recording long sessions, it can eat up battery fairly quick. The form factor is nice as well. It’s a bit thicker than I expected but it’s still pocketable and the mics at the top can fold in to save even more room.
