good
I think that this pump design is better than the others that connect in the discharge line. I did not have enough space in my pit for that kind. So this pump does a good job of pumping out my sump pit.The instructions were not that good but it was pretty easy to install. One thing that I did not realize until after I already had all of my pipes glued up was that the battery case needs to be attached to the pump to keep the pump from moving. I put the pump on the back side of my pit along the wall and after I had everything glued up there was no room to move the pump to attach it to the case. However, I ran the pump several times and it did not move so I think that this will not be a problem.I had read other reviews about this pump having some leakage. However, within about 1 minute of running my pump for the first time, the floor around the pump was all wet. It should not cause a problem because the pump base appears to be stainless steel and it will continue to be primed every time the main sump runs but it just does not look that good. Someday I will try to get a piece of stainless bent up to slip under the pump so that the water runs directly back into the pit instead of on the floor first. I would have given it 5 stars if it did not make my floor all wet.I also bought the extra battery case and it was easy to install. I put in some inexpensive ($70 each) deep cycle marine batteries.

It would be nice if this were set-up similar to the basement watchdog ...
Needed a back-up pump for my crawlspace that didn't go into the sump itself; this fits that need. Seems to be of decent quality and it's not difficult to set-up.Only complaint is that the battery maintenance is independent of the pump, and not very high quality. I used a mounted BatteryMinder on the joist above the battery; I wanted something that ran the battery through periodical tests and did more than just on/off charge. The one it comes with is really cheap. It would be nice if this were set-up similar to the basement watchdog where the charger also monitors the back-up pump and lets you know if it had kicked on. This set-up comes with a buzzer, but it's not very loud and it shuts off as soon as the pump shuts off.Long and short of it, if you need a pump that is outside of the sump well, this is a very good option... but order yourself a batteryminder while you're at it and toss the charger this one comes with.

hydro pump rh1400
i purchased the hydropump many months ago the pump is working after a number of fixes. soon after the pump was installed it begun to leak water. the hotline number told me to tighted the screws, which i did. this screw tighting did not stop the leakage of water. i sent the pump back before they could send me a new. i installed the new pump. i also went to a pool store to buy a better rubber hose. the one that was in the box was a much thinner rubber than the one i purchased at the pool store. next i purchased a 15 amp battery charger. this charger had differnt options that you could set. in the dc ups mode the charger simultaneously power the dc load (the pump) as well as the battery. the battery charger that is provided is very weak in comparison to samlex battery charger. i hope this will be some help and questions you can asked before purchased

Going strong after 7 years
I had mine installed for 7 years. We had 3-4 outages in this timeframe and it always performed flawlessly, twice there was heavy rain, still this little pump managed. Today we had the main sump pump fail while it was raining on the snow and the ground was frozen. So this pump worked straight for about three hours until we were able to replace the main pump. The water was coming up so fast that even a second portable pump wasn't enough to keep up. During heaviest of run-off we had a small river flowing through the backyard and had to haul buckets of water from sump, but managed without water ever coming out to the floor. This pump never leaked, never failed to start, but keep in mind its limits in terms of GPM.

Connected and ready to prove itself
Great product packaging, everything you could possibly need was included except the PVC cement and common hand tools. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow, and offered alternatives for other common installations - they also explain why certain installation requirements are important to follow.Installation requires a bit of thought and measurement to properly position the primary pump in relation to this backup unit. That doesn't mean it is hard or complicated, just that a little planning will make the installation much smoother. The alarm when the pump is running is definitely loud and attention getting, and there is plenty of power to keep ahead of incoming water. I feel very comfortable now that this pump is installed - almost looking forward to the next thunderstorm and power loss....

pretty good backup sump pump
I looked at several and decide on the RH800 because I had limited space in my sump well. The only problem that I had was priming the foot-valve and pump without getting myself all wet. A release valve to prime or plunger up under the foot valve would solve this problem. I now have 2 AC power sump pumps and the RH800 working just fine.

Great product.
Takes about two hrs. The vertical pipe may not be long enough requiring a trip to the store but everything else is in kit
