DuroMax XP16HP 420cc Recoil Start Gas Powered 50 State Approved, Multi-Use Engine, XP16HP, Blue

I used this engine on a bandsaw mill that I built 3 years ago. The engine gets used in the summer months to cut lumber and then sits over the winter. It starts and runs great every summer after the long (6 month) winters and all I have had to do is use fuel stabilizer in it. Plenty of power to run a 159 inch bandsaw blade cutting dry wood.

I used the Duromax engine for a golf cart conversion project. So far the engine performance has been very good.

I've installed this now on a shredder/ chipper replacing the OEM Briggs Stratton engine. The Duromax is a more powerful engine and can run at the low end of it's rpm range without stalling. The previous engine would tend to stall at loads that this engine just idles though----it's a good engine. It starts easily with a single pull of the rope. It's a quality made piece of machinery----compact and powerful. It is fuel efficient----with a large tank. I can't think of anything I don't like about it---and I'm hard to please. Don't know why anyone would go for the electric start version of this engine---at the increased price---when this engine starts to easily.

Update on original review below.I've put some more time on this engine now and it continues to have a lot of power and the noise has subsided. The oil has stayed clean and doesn't have any visible metal shavings in it, so whatever made the noise must have been small. I did get in contact with the company and they assured me the warranty was 1 year, so they were helpful although a little hard to get a hold of. The tech did call to help diagnose but I've looked at everything there was to look at on this engine and never did see anything. I upped my rating accordingly.I don't know whether to recommend this engine to others or not. It arrived quickly and undamaged. The price is right. I installed it on a Troy Bilt Tomahawk shredder to replace the original under powered 5hp Tecumseh. This engine definitely makes the shredder more useful than it was originally with the too small engine.Engine runs great but sounds terrible. It had a very loud hammering noise when I first started it like a bolt was loose inside the crankcase. This intermittent noise subsided but was followed with a constant lighter hammering. It was full of the recommended oil. I used the machine for about an hour and checked the dipstick for metal shavings. Drained the oil and replaced with new. Nothing out of the ordinary was in the oil for a new engine.It does not smoke and runs like a top. I contacted the company by email and included a video for the sound and have had no response as to if this is normal for these engines. I have worked on engines small and large for 20 years and don't think this one is quite right. The noise is definitely from the crankcase area and not intake or exhaust noise. I believe it would be quiet otherwise. I thought it was going to come apart in the first 15 min but so far it has not. This is my third Honda clone engine and I had very good luck with the other two that I bought at Harbor Freight. I will report back when I have further information.

We bought this engine with a few concerns. Mostly being what kind of quality would we get for this price. I checked out reviews of it on other sites (sears, overstock), and it had a 4.6 star rating. So, I ordered it. It arrived quickly, and was well packed. We got it to replace the engine on our splitter, and quickly had it bolted and welded on. Off we went to test it out! Filled the gas tank, and it started on the first pull. It works awesome! The only problem we have had is one of our own making-left the choke on. Dont do that.It has made life a lot easier, and I wish I had gotten it 3 years ago!

Good engine started second pull,had oil leaking from crack in bottom of motor.appeared to possibly have been dropped at some point before I got it. Also after discovering crack I noticed base of motor not flat,be careful when mounting on your piece of equipment. Amazon replaced the motor with a new one

Bought the duramax 16hp motor for use on an airboat project it arrived in perfect condition after installing adding oil and gas it started in 2 pulls and ran great defiantly impressed and would recommend it for anybody
