Sikhote-Alin meteorite fall, during the winder of 1947, was the largest recorded meteorite impact on earth in modern times. The daytime fireball and subsequent crater-forming event were witnessed by rural farmers in a remote part of eastern Siberia, near the Sikhote-Alin mountains; the range which gives this highly collectible meteorite its name. The Russian Academy of Sciences investigated the fall zone during a series of expeditions in the late 1940s, and approximately 100 separate meteorite craters were identified in a densely wooded area. These exciting specimens are known as shrapnel fragments. They broke up due to atmospheric pressure and/or mid air collisions, and possibly also explosive fragmentation upon impact. These pieces really show the power and fury of an iron meteorite fall: riped and torn edges reminiscent of bomb shrapnel. Approximate dimensions of specimen box: 84 mm x 58 mm x 24 mm Weight: Each meteorite fragment weighs approximately 1-2 grams. One centimeter scale cube for size reference.

Shipped and recieved incredibly fast. Defininitely bigger than I thought they would be. I can't wait for my kids to open up their gifts Christmas morning and be able to hold and touch a peice of the universe that crashed into our planet. They are going to be blown away!

VERY COOL
My iron meteorite samples were larger than I anticipated and of perfect quality. I love the tv series Meteorite Men and now I have three nicely thumbprinted iron meteorites from Geoff Notkin. HOW COOL
