3M makes the best butyl tape
Bottom line, do t try to save a few bucks by buying off brand stuff, just get the stuff everyone swears by. I use this at work, I don’t use it for its intended purpose, but what I use it for exceeds its normal use and for that I will not use anything else. It’s made right and it remains a staple in my toolbox.Word of caution, if you get it on your clothes, it is not coming off……But you already knew that!

Worked great on my 98 Ford Ranger (Rear window)
After finding a youtube video, I went ahead and ordered this size (3/8in) of the windo-weld to fix my leaky rear window on my 98 Ford Ranger. It had been leaking for a long time, and it had been sitting at the previous owner's house, and that had caused surface rust on all the interior metal pieces and several interior electrical issues that were expensive to fix. Ordered this product, it came and I got to work on the truck. My truck is the single cab with the three piece sliding rear window, and this worked great for it. I put the windo-weld in the freezer before working with it, and didn't take it out until I had removed all of the old seal from my window. I then put it on, which was much easier with it cold than with it warm (takes the stickiness out of it temporarily). Then, after warming it up I put it back in the truck, tightened up the window bolts slowly, and left the truck in the sun for about an hour. After letting it sit I further tightened it until they were snug. I also made sure to push the window into the frame from the back periodically, which aided in closing the weatherstripping gap.I installed it in July of 2021 and it's now February of 2022, and I can successfully report that it has stayed weathertight for over 6 months now. I definitely recommend this product, especially for us 90s Ford guys that got screwed from the factory on these windows! It seems like other customers had issues with the shipping/condition of the product when received, I personally did not experience that and it came in new condition. My only grievance is that the box itself that the weatherstrip comes in had a little window in the front for you to feel the product through, just seemed weird to me. Seems like dust and other stuff could get in there and potentially contaminate the weatherstripping. Anyways, I had some left over and wrapped in a plastic bag for future use.

2003 f150 rear window repair
I used it to seal around the beauty ring's guide pins and mounting studs. Water hose tested and 2000 psi pressure washer tested. No leaks found. Fyi, I used foam core butyl tape for the window outline seal.

Works fine, but different packaging
Not too much to say about this butyl tape: it works as it should and did a great job sealing the new rear windows in my van. Only thing to note is that it ships in a plain plastic bag, not the box as shown in the product description. There is nothing on it to say that it is actually 3M tape, other than a sticker on the outside of the plastic packing bag. It does says "Made in America" but doesn't have 3M branding. I'm trusting that this is the real deal.

Ready to roll..Do the job right !!
I was interested in this product after reading and learning about how to fix my broken window motor on my car. The suggestion was that after the repair was done the plastic film that was a moisture barrier that goes on the door frame before re-installing the door panel was held on by "Butyl-tape" -Ive never heard of that, what is it? While I was well aware of the black sticky stuff that youd often find while working on cars I never knew what it was or what it was called or where to but it and since my car is in great condition and I like to do things by the book I went in search of this stuff...GOOD LUCK !!....Most auto stores and home improvement stores didn't have a clue about what I was talking about and after many phone calls I gave upon that and got on the ol net to search a viola!! here it was......Now some will say you can just tape on the plastic ( not a good idea it will fail in time) some say to just leave it off ! -OK if you like rust -others say use caulking or another glue NOPE!....this stuff was designed to come off and on specifically. While if your very careful you can remove the plastic barrier and somewhat save the old butyl-tape it makes it easier to have a fresh roll. You can also use it for other applications as well (seal leaks etc) ...Now, you DO get a lot in the roll that you may not need all at once,i used mine about two years ago and now I have another window motor out and I don't have to go searching around for the tape ive got it tucked away in my tool box ready to go.

Good quality but
Good quality but the length is not 15ft, mine was 10ft so be careful when you buy it, make sure you check the length.

It is what it is
Are you working on your car? Do you need some butyl tape to form a gasket or water proof seal? This is literally what that is. I got this kit because I was re-doing a vapour seal on the inside of a door... went for this thicker ribbon because I wanted more "play" as I was re-using a foam part. Worked a treat. Messy as hell if you need to clean it up; wear gloves, plan ahead. That's intrinsic to the product and not a negative.
