One Of The Best On The Market
We have several Schrodt feeders. This model is one of our favorites. The bright blue, faceted glass really "pops" in the morning and afternoon light, which is a bonus for us humans and a bright beacon that attracts hummers from a distance in the early morning and evening, coming off of or going to roost. This model holds enough sugar water for probably a week if you fill it. We do not, as we refill often, and use only a cup at a time, otherwise we would be pouring out a lot of the left-over nectar. I have never seen a Schrodt feeder leak in high winds, I think because the top of the base presses down firmly against the bottom as you screw in the glass top. Disassembly for cleaning and filling is easy, and so is reassembly. The top half of the base is copper, not some coated metal that will rust over time. The copper has four flower-shaped designs cut into it for feeding so you don't have to worry about raised, attached "flowers" breaking or falling off. In our experience it takes a bit for the birds to learn to drink from this design, but they do, and because the slots can't clog like some of the narrow-throated "flowers", they don't require any effort to clean when refilling. The birds also like the ability to perch on the edge of the feeder while drinking, or just resting while guarding their food source. The bottom is plastic, but is solid and seems to be ozone resistant. We have had one Schrodt for several years (we take our feeders down during the winter months) and the plastic looks like new. A quick polish with 4-0 steel wool on the copper brings it back to new if you don't happen to like the aged patina that copper takes on when exposed to the weather...the birds don't seem to care one way or the other. A bottle brush, available on Amazon, along with a little soapy water, and a paper towel or two is all you will need to clean these feeders. While Schrodt feeders are all pricey, at two to three times the cost of cheaper hummingbird feeders, at least with them you get what you pay for...a great looking feeder that is functional, not too wasteful of nectar, easy to clean and refill, that lasts for years without a lot of annual maintenance, that hummingbirds take to readily. We recommend these feeders.

Lovely but misleading.
While I like the feeder, there is some misinformation. The "Product description" section says it "holds 16-ounce" however, the box it comes in and the tag directly attached to the feeder say 6 ounces. The Amethyst is so dark it looks almost black, so the picture is completely inaccurate. Just FYI, the box says the base is copper plated. Taking it apart and reassembling it was fairly easy once I realized I had to line up the center screw in the bottom (plastic) part to fit evenly just inside the edge of the copper topped base. Imagine the whole thing is inverted after just having filled it with nectar . . . I then held those two base pieces together while I screwed the glass portion into them. Just today I hung it outside without a drip. I don't mind the smaller sized capacity, but I do wish the color was apparent. With the caveat that the color and size are misleading, it is a lovely feeder. Hopefully, the hummers will like it as well.

Love it so much I bought another.
Reasons I like this brand over all others I have tried:1. The feeding base comes apart for a thorough cleaning (no unreachable corners).2. Because the top is made of a heavy glass, it doesn't rock as much in the wind and dump the syrup on the ground.3. Holds a cup, the perfect size so I can refresh the syrup every 7 to 10 days so it doesn't get old.4. Never has any ants get sucked up inside when an air bubble needs to fill the vacuum because the syrup comes through a feeding tube. Instead the bottom of the bottle fills a shallow pan - no narrow tube.5. Lovely to look at.6. My first one is several years old and looks as good as the one I bought this summer (even though it frequently gets left hanging empty all winter - snow and all).

Pretty but not quite as pictured
This is a very pretty hummingbird feeder but the color is definitely not as pictured. I am including a couple of photographs for reference. The color is more of a soft amethyst as opposed to the vibrant shade that is shown in the picture. With that being said, the product is beautiful and seems to be well made. The copper is very pretty and as noted by other buyers, the base is plastic. All in all, it is a very nice feeder but is definitely not the vibrant shade that is shown.

Beautiful addition to my zen patio
I have 3 of these. Ordered the first one last year and loved it so this year I ordered 2 more. The ones I ordered this year using the "buy it again" feature are a much lighter shade of purple. They hold about 6oz which is good. My hummingbirds empty them before the nectar goes bag.

Attractive but hold 7 oz NOT 16 oz!
This review is for the Schrodt FGHF-A Amethyst Faceted Glass Hummingbird Feeder, reviews on this page seem to be mixed with other colors and models as well. I just hung it up today so I'll update this review in time. I'm considering returning it - the product description says it holds 16 oz, like the feeder I am replacing, but was very disappointed with how small it looked...measuring the capacity, confirmed it only holds 7 ounces! Not even enough for a standard 8 oz recipe, which I always doubled in the past to 1/2 cup of sugar. Not sure how the product description can be so inaccurate. On the plus side, it says on the box that it is solid colored glass and guaranteed not to peel or fade...granted not to be taken at face value, but upon inspecting it I'm pretty convinced it's actual colored glass, or else a damn good fake. Perhaps they changed this model, and to keep it at the same cost they made the bottle smaller? No idea but I am really thinking such a small feeder is not worth the price...I'll give it a spin and see how long this lasts and how well it attracts the regulars i have!
