One of Hollywood’s most acclaimed filmmakers and actors, Robert Redford directs and stars as Jim Grant, a lawyer and single father revealed to be the fugitive leader of a 1970s radical antiwar protest group by intrepid reporter Ben Shepard (Shia LaBoeuf). Grant is forced to run and confront those he left behind decades ago to protect himself from the FBI. But as Shepard delves deeper into the story, he realizes that there is more to Grant than meets the eye. Featuring Julie Christie, Sam Elliot, Richard Jenkins, Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon, THE COMPANY YOU KEEP is packed with powerful suspense and brilliant performances.

Weren't the Actors' Ages a Bit of a Stretch?
This was a very good movie with sparkling, deep performances by big named actors. A great plot, somewhat reminiscent of Sue Miller's While I Was Gone, moves along with a very real world feel. Redford as a director is one of the best and he doesn't cheat anywhere. All the money, all the focus is on the screen.Having said all that, I thought Redford and Julie Christy were too old for the roles they played. Not that it can't happen, but how does Redford in his late 70s have a twelve year old daughter? Even assuming that was true for the story, how is the other daughter Redford and Christy produced in 1970 still in college? The script even says it's been 30 years since their crime; shouldn't they be in their 50s? It just rankles in the back of your mind as you watch.

Good Movie!
Glad I rented, better than I thought it would be, Robert Redford fan from back in the 70's, happy to see him still doing well!

Great script, greating acting, great directing!
My wife and I just watched this and we both agreed, great movie! In particular the screenwriting and dialogue exchanges between the principle leads and the other supporting characters were great!

Very thought provoking
I remember the whole story with the Symbonese Liberation Army and the things that happened when things got out of control. A movie with the characters from those times, who turned themselves around and led honest and worthwhile lives was amazing. As part of her growth the character who turned herself in was also amazing. I am sure we have real life people like this. If it should ever happen that they are discovered or turn themselves in we will be able to have compassion for them and not treat them too harshly and let them make restitution to those who they wronged, financially, and in a way that helps people and provides services to the pubic.

Its a very subtle liberal movie.
Basically it subtly excuses a so called group who protested vietnam by robbing banks and killing a guard with children. As long as you are a Liberal and your brain is saying, look at me I am better then you others THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU!!!

A strong story well acted.
As to be expected with a Redford directed film, this is all about the characters, real depth, real people in a plausible situation. Pleasingly free of sensationalism and melodrama. The acting throughout is flawless except I found it hard to look at Redford without thinking he is too old for the part, he is clearly older than those who are cast as his contemporaries. The story pulls you in and keeps you involved until the credits role. If you are a fan of Redford's direction, then you will not be disappointed by this film; I watched it twice on consecutive days, and it still had my full attention on the second viewing. It's still by the DVD player as I expect I'm not done with it yet.

La Regola Del Silenzio - The Company You Keep - Blu-ray widescreen version
The blu-ray copy is Italian with English language & has a few 'place names' in Italian the quality is fantastic & the cast & story is quite complex in its telling, keeps us guessing the action a good pace when I say action it's subtle. Susan Sarandon & Julie Christie are fabulous so good to see high calibre actors getting in front of camera & clearly enjoying themselves I for one am really looking forward to seeing Nick Nolte in Redford's new film - these two great actors should be on stage they have such rapport.
