Modern Watercolor: A Playful and Contemporary Exploration of Watercolor Painting

It’s very nice book for beginners who have started or interested in watercolours..

I think this book is a great introduction to watercolour techniques. It explains the basics to help you get started. There are large photos and clear instructions. I followed her advice to create a colour mixing chart and this is really helpful as it's surprising what hues different colours create. The botanicals section is beautifully illustrated and again gives clear instructions and step by step photos so you can create different types of flowers and leaves and combine them into bouquets, wreaths and patterns. The animal section lets the book down slightly as some of the examples are fairly poor, but it still offers useful advice for a beginner. The tips on which colours to mix to create different skin tones is useful. The interiors and landscape sections are brief and not particularly inspiring for me. I do really like the sunset demo but have not yet given it a go.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  I’ll be honest not my personal favourite book not sure it’s suitable for beginner.Lots of designs to create mainly single images but there is limited instructions and photos on how to create them.Does have a small sections on writing with watercolour which is very helpful.I would suggest this book for intermediate level watercolour so hopefully I will get there eventually with other book and then I can move onto this one

I have only recently gotten into watercolour painting and my biggest interest is in botanics - even just to look through this book to see how the author paints these flowers is lovely. There are step by step instructions along with images and these images show how the author holding her brush/making the stroke, which is incredibly helpful and I have found is lacking in other books that I have been using.There is also an introduction to watercolour painting, as most other books, and again, the images that show how to mix the paint and set up a palette is brilliant - as I was getting this wrong previously, and was wondering why my paintings were drying different to how I intended! Fantastic book, highly highly recommend!

A lovely detailed book with great technique explanation!

Don't hesitate to buy this book. Easily explained, very informative. It's perfect for a beginner. Filled with pictures. Happy I bought it
