I have two dogs, both of whom love to chew as a stress release and daily activity. We'd been buying elk bones, but two active chompers made elk bones disappear pretty quickly, and so they became expensive.Our vet suggested we switch to hooves, because they're natural, durable, and cheaper. We've tried a few different brands, and these are the thickest and most durable. They also seemed to avoid splintering. They smell kind of like wet leather when being chewed, but it's a 'natural' smelling order that we've gotten used to.The dogs love them, we love the price and durability.Pro tip: If you need your pups preoccupied for a while, Cover the inside of them with peanut butter. They won't know, or care, about anything else in the world for at least a half hour.

Picked up a couple of the hooves for my dogs at our local pet supply store. Dogs went crazy for them, especially our Grt Pyrenese puppy. Decided to purchase in bulk as they enjoy them so much. Our pup is now 7 months old and I feel these have definitely aided in her not being destructive with furniture, door trim, and anything else she could find to be chewing instead. This our 2nd bulk bag and will continue to purchase as long a my girls chew them. They are all nice in size and thickness. I don't find splintered pieces but do throw them out when they get small enough that the dogs might choke on them or get them stuck in their mouth. But ALOT of chewing takes place before they get that small. If you have a dog who loves to chew, we highly recommend this product! My 65lb pitbull loves chewing on these. What I like is that they actually last long enough to keep him busy for a while. Even with his strong jaws. The one thing I will say is that they can break into small pieces in the outer edges as hes chomping and chewing which he will most definitely want to swallow (as my boy did). So keeping a close eye is suggested if u don't want that to happen. Otherwise they are actually great. I buy them in 10 packs like this.

Cracked my dog's molar within the first hour. Had to pay $1600 for full oral surgery. The crack was complicated and it went all the way down to the roots.This is certainly not as hard as antlers. My hypothesis is that this product tends to crack teeth because it allows the dog to induce large lateral stresses across their molar. The material is soft enough to allow the dog's tooth to sink into the material, thereby providing greater-than-normal "grip", but is hard enough to impart great stresses when the dog is biting down and attempting to "shear" the material with the second molar.In contrast, my dog seems to have a hard time getting a good grip on nylabone or antlers as they are much harder. His teeth simply will not indent the material enough to provide him the kind of "grip" to attempt to shear the material. All he can do is bite down or scrape away at the surface.Also, these hooves smell like poo. The smell is not like wet freshly-cut nails. It literally smells like cow feces.

Great product but wish they were a bit thicker :-) I have a 90lb 7mth old great Pyrenees & Anatolian shepherd mix (really big baby) and he loves these! He goes through 1 in 2 days. He's not a chew machine but goes to town on these. The vet is good with him having these and they keep him occupied. I think people are confusing the smoked version with the plain version - the plain hooves don't smell but the smoked hooves smell hideous! However the smoked are only stinky for the first few chews - nasty at first, but then after a few hours I guess they lick off the smokiness. Good price, good product, and I will definitely be buying these again!

I received this package today and gave one to my dog. He was very excited and hasn’t had a chew item of any sort in quite a long time. I have given him hooves in the past and they have lasted for several days if not longer. He has chewed through this one in a matter of a couple of hours. I don’t know if it was just this one in the package or if they will all be like this, however that does not suit my purpose. I was hoping for him to have something to keep him occupied for quite a while.

Low odor but go quick. I used to be able to buy cow hooves in the local feed store but they stink once our dogs began to gnaw on them and get them wet. However, those lasted awhile. Now, buying online, all the ones I've tried crack and break into pieces soon after chewing begins. Still, these are the best ones I've tried. Low odor, clean and good for indoor busy chewing

Great chews! My rescue Dobermann is on a diet, so I can't give her any chews that she can eat fast. This takes her at least a day to get where it is soggy enough where she can eat parts of a hoof. She isn't too crazy about them, as she would prefer something with much more calories. I am also fostering a rescue Pitbull, who has the same opinion. But as they are both sneaky little thieves, they keep stealing each other's hooves and then continue chewing on them. Even though both dogs have powerfull jaws, they have not been able to shatter or break these hooves. They have to spend the time to chew and get them soggy enough, before being able to eat any of the hooves. I love that it says on the bag that it's made in the USA, as I have very little faith in the quality control of most made in China products. To get screws that break or strip because they are soft as butter, is one thing, but I don't take any chances with the food or toys of my pets.
