My overall favorite radio price/value/capability
I have tried several different radios and this one is my favorite. It’s built sturdy, battery is held very securely and it’s easy to use. Has a better speaker than many others, reception is great, having dual talk buttons is convenient. Battery life is very good 2-3 days and there is always a spare ready to go.They also work well as a scanner, and can be linked and turned into a cheap repeater. If these had a USB charging port they would be even better. USB charging batteries are available, but they cost almost as much as the whole radio and kit.

LOVE the dual transmission PTT option
Haven't yet put a meter on it to test actual power output, but I can hit repeaters that my UV-5RA doesn't reach clearly, so there's gotta a bit more output.I do like that it came with an extra long antenna that also is an enhancement over the little rubber ducky that comes with it.The BIGGEST thing I have truly come to love about it is the dual PTT, you can of course dual monitor on the UV-5, but you can't just select the upper or lower PTT to talk on it! The only thing you gotta watch is where the little arrow is to know which freq is talking! 🤣More than once I've chimed in on the wrong freq!I do enjoy putting bank A on my usual freq and scanning with the other. The menu is pretty much the same, but the buttons are slightly different and have to be looked at... they are a little bigger tho.I really programmed it with the provided cable (win 10 and a win 11 computer) without special drivers for the com port onCHIRP.I also programed it with the wireless Bluetooth adapter and using their "ODMaster software. It's not great- very manual and no imports like CHIRP- but can save multiple configs for locations uploaded from my cell phone on the fly.I love the battery life and the extra battery that came with it!It's hard to find something I didn't like about this inexpensive but excellent radio!BTW, I do use it for both HAM & GMRS- I just set the power output to the FCC regulations and am licensed for both.I regularly participate in Net Calls in the morning on both 70cm & GMRS from stations around the country!

Cheap Chinese radio.
It’s a cheap Chinese radio, and it outperforms many radios that cost a great deal more money.I currently own three working radios and one that got ran over by a trailer with a 2,000 lb roll of cable, it broke the lcd screen but we used the radio the rest of the day, I plan to order a replacement UV-82 on payday.

Well thought out kit no better kit anywhere near pricepoint
This is a great unit. But the original is my preference . Dont buy into the distance hypes on any shortwave radio . Very subjective to terrains and building environments . Also often the claims involve connecting to a repeater. This is a great package buy though. Especially being able to chirp your unit from a phone Be sure to thoroughly check packaging some items hide . The tali ran us in circles usingBaefong’s. You might need this to do the same to uncle. Soon ,wish i could lol that last

Cheap but not worth it
I’m wondering if they were used/ seconds as they were preprogrammed with different channels-I tried chirp and they wouldn’t communicate with it to overwrite the frequencies-now it’s too late to return -I don’t recommend them-they’re cheap but if they don’t work then you’re wasting money and time

very difficult to program
sure - cheap easy way to get into HAM radio. BUT programming is rocket science level. BAOFENG offers computer programming software but they don't mention that their software requires ACTIVEX software. ActiveX is not in windows 10 or 11 and Microsoft stopped supporting ActiveX in 2020. USELESS pretty radios that I can't yet work.
