We have two larger cats (male and female litter mates, 16 and 18 pounds each); they were adopted so we're not sure of breed, but vet insists upon some Ragdoll ancestry. The twins adore a good scratcher, but use them oddly.Use #1: One curls up in the box like it's a bed so s/he can stare judgement and contempt at our dog from on high (we keep it on a cat-only shelf). This scratcher is sized so either one can tuck their paws in for a good glare session at our dog (who is blissfully ignorant and adores her feline brother and sister despite their disdain).Use #2: When it's playtime, one of them will use it as a stealth observation post. While there is zero chance they can truly hide in it (they're not tiny), the sides are just deep enough with one of the scratchers in it that they can hide their face below the top rim, so our super sneaky twins think they're hidden since they can't see us. When we (or the oblivious pooch) walk by their stealth bunker on a shelf, they'll jump out and paw the air in our general direction. It's super intimidating, as you can imagine. Since they can't truly hide, we know it's coming so no mishaps occur, but it's seems to satisfy their odd need to keep us suitably intimidated.Use #3: They use it as a scratcher. It does its job and doesn't shred too fast, like some others we've tried.There are other edge-case uses, but these are the three primary ways it gets put through its paces, and it functions well so far for all three needs. The additional inserts are great and make it that much more economical and useful. We'll be return customers!

It's a nice scratcher, I like that it comes with three replacements.It may be more appropriate for a smaller or younger kitty. It's a bit small for my adult cat. See pic. He still uses it so I can't complain.

These are not as thick as ones I have bought several other places. I am assuming right now they will still be OK and can be flipped without the cats tearing them apart. (I will modify the rating otherwise). What I do like is the box is higher sides than most. If I take the extra two pads out then the sides help contain all the little cardboard shreds that are generated when cats use this type of scratch pad. When all three pads are in the box, they come just to the top edge of the box, so if you wanted to leave the extras in, they could be stored there.

Both our cats enjoy scratching this pad and using it as a place to hang out. I especially love that this scratcher comes with three scratching pads and that having just one in the bottom of the box allows for any bits that get scratched up to remain within the box -- our old one had us in constant need of a vacuum since the bits would land all around the scratcher. I was worried this might be a bit small, but its small footprint is perfect for our home and our bigger cat (16 lbs.) jams herself quite happily into it with the box frame no worse for the wear. Both cats also like to sleep next to it, with a body part coming in contact with the box frame. Super cute. This has been a huge success in our house & I highly recommend.

Some cat owners may think- so, big deal, it’s just a scratch pad. But when I saw this scratch pad I got excited because it was exactly what I have been looking for. It has a simple and brilliant design! Because it has a high edge framed border that rises above one pad insert. My cat loves his scratch pad. He uses it often, and vigorously. Which means there is a lot of cardboard debris that gets spread all over my house. This design keeps the debris inside! Plus it has 3 pads which are easily flipped over to use each side. Most stores only sell the pads with a glued on border so you can’t flip the pad over unless you rip off the border, which is a real pain. What idiot designed that?! So, I am gladly giving this top rating. It has saved a lot of sweeping and irritation at pad debris. Thank you!

Buddy @ 13# & Dora @ 16# have requested a 2nd set so they don't have to share (neither is really big on sharing). This item includes 3 inserts (which are pretty typical) but the real treat is if I put just 1 cardboard scratcher inside the box, the cats believe they're hiding in a box. And they LOVE BOXES. All sizes. All shapes. (Thank you Amazon & WalMart for delivering free cat toys) Of course, the sides of this are only about 2 inches high so no part of their cat bodies is hidden from view, but since Buddy has been known to squeeze his 13 pounds into a berry basket, it apparently doesn't matter if I can see him or not. It's the BOX that counts. If you have a box-loving cat, even a big one, order this product.

My cat absolutely loves these! She’s been transitioned from indoor/outdoor to indoor only and this really helps her not scratch on the furniture. Not to mention it’s super cute!So glad it came with 3 refills so it lasts a very long time.
