Follow up review.
I did have to be somewhat persistent to get assistance with our unit but the result was great. A very nice woman named Abby assisted me and diagnosed the problem to be a faulty pump. She mailed us a new pump and the unit has been working great again for a few weeks.Thank you,DavidI so want to write a good review. Easy to set up and our plants are growing great! The problem we have is after a few weeks, the lighting system starting acting weird. During the day, it flickers from low to high. At night when the lights are off, it flashes like a strobe light. Now both issues don’t happen all the time but many times each week. Of course we threw away the box and wrapping to try and return. I have reached out twice to Miracle Gro asking for assistance but have had no reply. Cool item but my experience is look elsewhere.Follow up: I had not posted this review but a few weeks ago the unit quit working completely. I happened to see it on Facebook so posted a comment about our results. The company reached out immediately and said to please email them which I did right away. I received a stock reply that they would get back in touch. Another week and nothing.

Good growing system
Once the plants are in, this unit is functional and beautiful. An attractive showcase. Could not get my eyes of it each time I pass by.Not only it is pretty, it is also a very good growing system. I was surprised that it could give me at least 1 large serving of salad/week.It can hold only 4 plants, not many comparing to other hydroponic systems, but that did not bother me. In other hydroponic systems, one can start with large number of plants, then must reduce the number once the plants grow large any way.

Very bright!
It’s actually a pretty cool item. We have the Aero Garden models, but they’re good for small stuff or seed starting. These are big, and quite sophisticated in how they communicate with the app. We appropriately named them Xylem and Phloem, and they are VERY bright. Almost like a Poltergeist effect! Two science teachers in the house, so this is right up our alley. No doubt they’re expensive, but picked ours up on a Black Friday deal. Would recommend for anyone. They probably make for good coffee tables too if you don’t want to stack.

Initial Thoughts
My initial thoughts...It's sturdy, it's functional and it was challenging for someone to put together whose physically challenged. It was also difficult to pair with my android phone. It's running now and we will see what happens over time. It is too soon to consider recommending it.JDUpdate 07/23/2020Well, I've had this device for almost a year and it has definitely been a love-hate relationship. My biggest complaints are it's really not big enough to grow much of anything and it's a royal pain in the backside to keep clean.I keep it in my office and when its time to clean I have to empty it and then drag it through the house to get it outside to clean it.If you aren't careful mold and algae can start growing in it and then you have a mess on your hands.Would I buy it again? Probably not the cost of the unit and accessories is excessive for the benefit and there is that dang cleaning problem.JD

To grow lettuce and herbs.
Update: the light keeps coming on even after turning it off three times in a row. Too expensive for something to fail after just 3 months old. So now I just turn it on and off myself the beads keep the roots very moist, so even for a couple of days the machine can be left off (should you have to leave your plants to go out of town)The light would stay on and will come on by itself, even after I turn it off, it fried some of my plants!Lettuce loves this thing, planted some basil from the store, after cleaning the roots off dirt and have now four plants three of which I am giving away.I also have placed sunlight deprived plants on the floor around it and they love it.The growing medium it comes with sucks, I bought some beads from the hydroponic store which work a million times better and the roots are easier to remove.Bought organic non GMO sweet mini peppers and planted the seeds and and they are growing.I would buy another one for $100, the other $100 makes it overpriced.
