Great value and very good optics in an inexpensive yet well-made binocular
I was pleasantly surprised by these binoculars in two ways. First, the ones I ordered were used/refurbished, but when I unboxed them, all the accessories were there, perfect or unopened and the binoculars looked brand-new. Second, Nikon has put all the essential engineering and build quality into these to achieve very good optical performance, particularly given the challenges of making a good variable magnification optic. At 10x magnification, the field of view is clear, bright, and free of any visible fringing or chromatic aberration. Eye relief is adequate to preserve a full field of view with my glasses on as long as the rubber eyecups are folded back. Since I have astigmatism, I can't just dial out blurriness with diopter correction. At full magnification, you just begin to see some color fringing at the edges, but overall image quality remains surprisingly good. I can make out detail at a distance better with two eyes at 22x magnification than I can with a 30x monocular spotting scope. With the included tripod adapter attached, these make a great rifle range optic. Out hunting, I'm spoiled by the ability to steady these against something and zoom in for otherwise indiscernible detail. This is a great value in a highly versatile optic.

Excellent binoculars
These were purchased primarily for watching birds and whales in Maui. The optics are excellent. The zoom setting is easy to use and the magnification numbers seem accurate. The images are not as sharp as image stabilized canon 18x50, or Nikon image stabilized 16x42.. However at 1/10 the price of the image stabilized glasses, these seem an outstanding value. I bought a second pair. Since they are not waterproof, I would probably be careful about using in the rain or anywhere they might get wet. I haven’t tried them on a boat, but the image stabilized choices would probably be better in that setting,Overall a great purchase and excellent value.

Good binoculars
I bought these for ship watching off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They work fantastic. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold them steady enough at full zoom, but it's not really been a problem as long as you have a firm place to rest your elbows. I can even use them to zoom in on the F-18 Hornets that fly over here all the time. Clarity is very good on minimum zoom but slightly less so when fully zoomed to 22X (it's still good...just not as good). I think that's to be expected, especially for binoculars in this price range. BTW, the zoom feature is super easy to use even while looking through them - just move the lever with your thumb.I have to agree with almost all the other reviews that the lens caps are almost totally worthless. Not only do the eyepiece caps fall off when you turn it upside down, but the objective caps are designed to thread into the strap rendering the strap all but impossible to suspend from your neck, and these caps are difficult (slow) to remove if the strap isn't threaded through them. All that being said, these are great, reasonably priced binoculars to view things from your house or apartment, but the lense caps prevent them from being very practical for field use. I knew about the cap problems going into it because I read all the reviews, but I didn't much care since I only planned to use them from home, so I really can't complain too much.

Great set of eyes for the range!
These binoculars are perfect for use at the shooting range. I mainly shoot .22LR and 6.5 Grendel, and I have no trouble making out the shot placement on the target up to 100 yards.I've tried other variable binoculars from Barska (10x - 30X) at about 1/2 the price, but they have not been very satisfactory. They were very finicky when trying to use the higher magnification settings, with the usual problem being a noticeable loss of clarity. The optics on this set are clear throughout the entire range, with no distortion that I have noticed. There is a little adjustment required when transitioning from 10X to 22x, but that is to be expected. Other than that, they have worked perfectly. The only gripe I have, and it is a minor one, is that the front lens caps are not as tight as I would like - they have a tendency to come off in the case. However, the quality of vision is more than worth the very minor inconvenience.I highly recommend them to anybody looking for an excellent set of variable binoculars at a very reasonable price.
