Superb stuff from 1970s American TV comedy cutting edge
I've now viewed this whole season about three times now, and keep finding new delights among its contents. SNL's first season is a superb compendium of entertainment, ranging from smart cutting edge comedy (aside from the future luminaries of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players, you have Andy Kaufman popping up in three episodes, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore guest hosting and performing sketches new and old, and George Carlin doing a set that was years in advance of anything UK stand-ups were doing), music (Abba, Patti Smith Group, Simon & Garfunkel, Carly Simon, Phoebe Snow, Janis Ian, etc.), pre-ATV Muppets (somewhat hit and miss, depending on whether you're a fan of the felt ones – they bow out of the show about a third of the way through the series), and a great line-up of star guest hosts – Raquel Welch, Richard Pryor, Anthony Perkins, Desi Arnaz, to name but a few. Then there are the quirky items like viewers home movies and the films by Albert Brooks. Each show lasts more than 60 minutes, and the sound and picture quality is very good for programmes taped 40+ years ago. As a time capsule of mid-1970s US popular culture it is peerless, all the way down to the fashions worn by the audience. It's unlikely that any further SNL seasons will be released on Region 2, so best make the most of these wonderful gems. Highly recommended.

the first and the best-setting the standard for the rest!
i had waited and waited for this to come out on region 2 and as soon as it did-i bought! i have had this for nearly three years and never tire of it.saturday night was HILARIOUS in this series, gilda radner, john belushi, chevy chase, dan aykroyd-some amazing musical guests and comedy guests are all fabulous and make for compulsive, no, obsessive viewing. one ends and you need to start another.this box set shows how things used to be, stars could laugh AT themselves and weren't too diva-ish to become part of the team and get stuck in to the sketches.political satire (see weekend update featuring gerald ford and his accidents) and political incorrectness (see richard prior job interview!) the content of the early snl series would not look out of place on tv today, the current snl crew are good but don't compare to the old school bunch. pushing the boundaries and believing in their material seemed more important than their own agendas. these days sometimes the modern snl seems to think it's cleverer and funnier than it really is.PLEASE bring season 2 on region 2, my life is incomplete without it!

Comedy history
This is a very funny sketch show. Even just watching some of the stars at the beginning of the comedy careers is worth buying this for. However a lot of the sketches just don't work and I wondered what they were thinking when they wrote them. Through out each show they have filmed joke commercials. These are often repeated again and again through out the shows. The same joke over and over again! Hmm?However this is still worth buying, I think (for me) the real star is Dan Aykroyd, he has real comic timing. There are some very funny moment, and one or to that have improved over time, such as sketch with Richard Prior about the ridiculous notion of the USA ever electing a black president.

geart classics to relieve
its really amazing to get to see how the show's beginning is.im a fan of Chevy chase since i was young and really enjoy watching him doing the show's trademark fall and weekend update in full.the only thing im not very happy is that the package is very big,it takes alot of space in the house.although it is great for collectors who want to watch the show in its original context

Original SNL
Love seeing the originals at work. Some hosts jokes are a bit dated but then it is set in the 70s. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
