fantastic topic, rip off of a book- i'll tell you what it shows you and save you the cost
i am very disappointed in this book- here is what the "actionable" lessons are1) take cold showers often2) the only breathing method reviewed in the book is the following: breath deeply, exhale deeply- repeat this 30 times and then hold your breath as long as you can-that's it- there's a lot of interesting conjecture and peri-scientific and to be fair, scientific ideas discussed- but the material is so thin on the WHM (Wim Hoff Methods) that it doesn't justify 120 pages- but it mentions over and over all these wonderful breathing methods and delivers only point number 2 abovethere's another piece here- the idea of commitment- but this is so shallowly fleshed out that it doesn't even deserve to be in the titlei LOVE the ideas that this book was supposed to cover- but with so little programmatic instruction, this is one of Dragondoor's poorest efforts in a whilethis subject really deserves more detailed instruction- perhaps this is if you pay for his on line course (which may have some value) but the book is a lousy bait and switch on what really may be an important topiccompared to pavel's books, which are a gold mine of brilliance and insight, this falls vastly short

Compelling
A readable book with enough credible material to inspire me to try the do it yourself for 30 days to see for myself. If I succeed in completing the 30 days I'll be back to report in an edit and bump the star count up or down. The benefits could be enormous. I hope so and must find out.[Edit] I had planned to use the "do it yourself for 30 days" as a trial to see if I wanted to buy the ten week on-line course. As fate would have it, he put a significant discount on it for Christmas and I went for it. Having reviewed the workbook for the on-line video course I can say that this book has the essence of his method and I am therefore bumping this review to 5 stars. The on-line course has more; winter yoga, exercise and methods for gauging progress which I'm certain will be valuable (I'm not making a sales pitch for him here). This review is for this book and I stand with that first paragraph, The Kindle book or the hard copy when released is a good value and something that has actionable information.

Little substance, lots of self-promotion by other people
Disappointing. Starts out with 6 pages of "advance praise" by 12 men. Then we get 3 pages of "I am awesome" by another man. Followed by 6 pages of self-glorifying statements like "...I can effortlessly access this 'Mind of no Mind' via intense physical exercise" by yet another man, who incorporates elegant terms like "bitch-slapped" into his description of his own masterful technique. Altogether, an unpleasant and egocentric introduction to what should be a fascinating topic. The book is very brief, short on details as others have noted, and full of not-quite-true statements, such as, "If the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood is disrupted, it will have a strong effect on your intestines." Well, yes, but fortunately we have lungs and kidneys, which maintain appropriate balance in all but the most seriously ill. By the time you reach that point, no breathing exercise is going to rescue you.Back to Amazon it goes.

Sadly, this book was disappointing.
I really wanted to like this book, but came away disappointed. There is lots of theory with little science to back it up. The only actual instructional material is at the very end and leaves more than a little to be desired. I would recommend Scott Carney's "What Doesn't Kill Us" which will give you much more information along with a good story.

Wonderful background on WHM and cold exposure
I loved the context provided by this "book" about all topics related to breathing, cold exposure, and WHM. Apparently cold exposure is super duper healthy for you! But not much instruction for learning the techniques, besides the absolute basics. I guess you need to get the 10 week course or take a seminar in person for that.

For those who dare, an entry point to a new way of caring for yourself!
After accidentally coming across a documentary about "The Iceman" on Viceland TV, I was absolutely fascinated by what this guy could do, and that his accomplishments regarding control of his autonomic nervous system enabled him to sit in freezing ice/water for 80 minutes and maintain his core temp at a steady 98 degrees blew me away. It has been validated by several universities and labs; he's the first person ever scientifically documented as having gained control over his autonomic nervous system (the system that controls INVOLUNTARY functions like heart beat and breathing). I Googled him, saw this book and ordered it, arriving on Friday, I read the entire book by Saturday morning. I then went to his website and ordered the ten week course ($200) and am now nearing the end of the first week. It is a step by step, very simple series of lessons. I can say without reservation that in less than ten days I already feel different; I have more energy, am more alert, have fewer aches and pains (I'm 62!) and enjoy a very cold shower everyday. I doubt I'll ever be diving into a semi-frozen river or sitting in a pile of ice, but am very confident is saying that this is not some new age hocus pocus...it is a simple, combined approach to gaining some control over your body (and mind eventually), speeding up your metabolism, and fighting inflammation in your system without popping pills.I sort of got off the topic of the book, but I'm clearly a fan and the book was simply an initial gateway to a whole new way of life/health. The book IS NOT a complete guide to the method, it is an entry point.

Disappointing
This book can be summarised as follows:Wim Hof can do some amazing things. He learned to do it by cold exposure and breathing techniques. There is scientific evidence to suggest his method may be helpful for a range of medical conditions, particularly ones related to chronic inflammation. You can do this too by taking a cold shower every day, gradually building up your tolerance to cold. Also breathe evenly for a while then breathe out and hold your breath. If you do this repeatedly, you will be able to hold your breath for longer. That's pretty much it.I get the impression this was written to cash in on the increasing popularity or Wim's method. For the record, I think there's something in his method, but this book is a poorly written and contains very superficial information. Wouldn't recommend.

I was disappointed with the lack of detail in how to perform ...
I was disappointed with the lack of detail in how to perform any of Wim's techniques. The book mostly describes the health benefits of the WHM with very thin instructions on how to progress the techniques. Poor!

Great story. Poorly written
Love wim and have been practicing the method for a while now which makes it a real shame that this book is so poorly written.I felt like I was reading something written by a child. Wim really should have gotten a good ghost writer for this. Pity

Fascinating theories and a cracking story
Absolutely fascinating. I'm a real cynic when it comes to health "discoveries" . There are too many instagram "experts" proclaiming the next big thing with little or no scientific facts to support their claims. That said I like to keep an open mind and to at least give each claim I come across a hearing.I really wasn't sure I was going to believe or get behind the claims in this book....But....... it rang true..... and there have been genuine scientific studies and evidence backing Wim's claims....I couldn't stop reading. I tried his methods.... and I really feel there might be something to this. It's a cracking story too......Really enjoyable read and utterly fascinating..... and ...possibly life changing.

The Way of the Iceman, reviewed by Tevin Gongo
It is a good instruction to the Wim Hof Method. The book is at the image of its hero, Wim Hof, simple and straight to the point. The book is easy to read and to understand. There is no false claim, no desire to convince anyone. It is "just" an accumulation of of what I'd call "testimonials" that are convenient enough to raise some level of curiosity. It belongs after to each one to decide or not to push the investigation further and why not to decide to experiment.I'm for sure decided to learn more and integrate in my daily life, breathing exercise, cold therapy and commitment. Nothing to lose, everything to win😉
