📖 Saddle up for a story that transcends boundaries!
G. Neri's 'Ghetto Cowboy' is a compelling novel that explores the life of a young boy navigating the complexities of urban life while discovering the rich heritage of cowboy culture. Set against the backdrop of Philadelphia, this narrative not only inspired the film 'Concrete Cowboy' but also highlights themes of family, community, and self-discovery.

Heartwarming and hard to put down
This was a good book, with great lessons that everyone should learn no matter the age. Gives this book a read and I guarantee you won't regret it.

Largely fictional based on fact
I really appreciate the attention this book & the movie this brought to a little known, valuable, non-profit helping at risk kids & horses. Shockingly I lived less than 2 mi from Fletcher Street, had seen the cowboys on occasion, but never knew their "story" till now. Kudos for that. The book was a good read intended for young adults but disappointing for me d/t the largely fictional content when there is such an important real story to tell. Now that I am aware I do plan to spread the word & support them as they fight to survive.

A very sweet and hopeful story
A very sweet, if fanciful, tale of hope in the city. Could be quite real, like the Compton Cowboys. Train will pull into the station.

Cowboy Family Forever
I recommend this story to young adults. Show the power of family and community. It is one of the areas to gather strength to work with what you have to grow stronger. May take some time but in the end, isn't the fight for your way of life worth it? Stay Strong!

Great story
This is feel good, happy ending story. Well worth reading. You don't have to be a cowboy to like this book.

Perfect for 4th grade up to adult
I had the pleasure of reading this book to prepare for an author visit at a city school. Before I could get very far into it, my 9 year old took it for himself. We read the first few chapters together, but he wanted to read it faster than I could read aloud! He loved this book. It's not just about race or poverty or horses. It's about truth, resilience and what happens when look beyond yourself.

Very Sweet
Beautifully illustrated and a lovely story. I will certainly look out for more of his work. My only fault is that I didn't particularly like the way it was written, very simplistic and aimed at a much younger audience then I anticipated (I thought this would be for teens, it was more appropriate those under 12).

Horses are the Better Human Beeings
