Hunting High Country Mule Deer

An excellent book, particularly for trophy hunters.
An excellent book, particularly for trophy hunters. I consider myself a meat hunter rather than a trophy hunter. However, recent moves by Game Management Departments to buck only with minimum number of antler points has forced me to hunt differently than I did in the past. Since I have to glass a potential buck to count the points, often for long periods of time, I am now using trophy hunting techniques to locate and harvest deer. Thus, I find this book's content spot on. Mr. Easton has boiled down years of experience of trophy hunting down to the essential techniques needed to take bucks with four or more points on one side. I particularly like his advice on glassing and using the grain of the landscape to assist in finding game. There are very few good writings on mule deer but I believe this is the best one that I have found.

Great book!
I really like this book, read half of it so far. I like the way Mike Eastman writes. I just shot a forked buck last weekend, my second deer, and I was constantly applying his principles. I think it will take me a lifetime to reach the level that Eastman is talking about though. While he is hunting the wisest animals, I am happy sneaking around, hoping to make one less mistake than the first legal buck I find. So while this book is full of good advice, it is geared toward hunting animals that act elusively. You might be happy shooting a young buck that is tagging along with a group of does, while Eastman looks past them to some distant mountain that might hold a monster.

This is an outstanding book for all mountain mule deer ...
This is an outstanding book for all mountain mule deer hunters. Even if your hunting area isn't blessed with all the scouting time in the world, 12,000 foot peaks and more alpine bowls than you can count, the author's insights he accumulated over years of recorded observations are universal and readily applied to your hunt area. My only complaint, and it didn't affect the quality of the information in the book, is that the formatting of pages and photos didn't carry over to the Kindle version.

One book every Mule Deer enthusiast should read.
This man is far ahead of his time and was doing things that didn’t become fashionable for nearly 20 years, this kind of knowledge if not passed on the way it is in this book disappears like those mule deer herds I remember from my youth in the Rockies. Thank you Guy.

Dated
The book is dated by a few decades. It is interesting but needs a serious update.
