Purchased these in 2018 and they still look like new. The Marshall set was designed in 1900 and is still the best pattern ever made. The sizes are perfect; many other sets have a too short or too tall queen (she should be shorter than the king but not as short as the bishop) or pawns that seem tiny compared to the other pieces. Or they get too fancy with the slot on the bishop. Or the knight looks crude. The Marshall set hits all the right notes.The quality is quite good. You can still barely see the seams but it this bothers you you can buff them out and make them invisible. The felt is holding up nicely, and I can see no nicks or scratches.The weight is perfect. Beware of some of the "quadruple weighed" pieces out there. Sure, they are heavy, but you can't cram that much weight into a standard sized piece and still have most of the weight at the bottom. This makes the piece more tippy. House of Staunton gets it rightFree clue: If you get a set with a 3.75" King it will fit perfectly on a standard 2.25" square without looking too sparse or crowded. If you get a set with a 4" King. You will search and search for a larger board to fit it, and will only find it in vinyl -- most or all of the silicone and mousepad boards have the standard 2.25" squares.

Twice I ordered the black and natural colors, and twice I received the black and ivory. Even though the ivory color was also beautiful, I wanted the natural color pieces. I contacted Amazon. They were very helpful! They said that they would notify House of Staunton, and they even allowed me to keep the black and ivory chess pieces for the inconvenience of receiving the wrong chess pieces. Within a day, Scott, the rep from House of Staunton emailed me. Upon his request, I sent him pictures of the pieces, including one of the black cracked knight. Within three days I received two sets of the natural color pieces and the black knight piece replacement. They were beautiful. The service was excellent. I definitely recommend the House of Staunton for ordering chess equipment. The plastic chess pieces are the best on the market, as well as their service. I am very impressed!!!

These are fantastic. Well molded without any edges or flashing. Mold lines are nearly invisible. The weight is perfect and pieces have a great feel to them. I have students playing with this set every day, and this set has survived over a year of abuse (hundreds of dropped pieces, stepped on, thrown, etc.).Excellent product; highly recommended.

Love the set but doesn't fit right with my 19 inch wooden chess board. I guess this is my fault for not doing the research. Overall this is an amazing chess set. The quality and design are just right. The weight is perfect and might weigh more than my premium plastic 4 inch set I got from wholesalechess. Highly recommend this set. Just make sure you get a chess board with at least a 2.25 inch square.

Beautiful chess set, pieces are weighted and do not tip over easily. Was well packed and delivered on time. The only problem I had was the cross was broken off of one of the kings and one queen was missing. I called The House of Staunton (the seller) told them of my problem and they immediately mailed the queen and replacement king. Great chess set and great service! I highly recommend both!

Hello. i bought this along with the reykjavik set (bought them barely at the same time) It was all good until i noticed that both Black kings crosses were torn apart. The design and finish of the pieces were beautiful but that is not a minor detail. I wish i can get a replacement for both Black kings from this Marshall and Reykjavik set.

I have not had better chess sets and I have spent more. Excellent for tournament use or home with a matching board. Looks great on either wooden or mat. My boys have not broken any pieces yet.

Bought this set years ago from the House of Stauton. Color, weights, felting all very good. But the plastic is a hard thermoset plastic, which means the bottom ring edge chips as players knock the pieces one into the other during captures. Woods sets, such as the Liberty, or the softer thermoplastic sets, such as the Ultimate, are more durable/forgiving when it comes to rough play.
