Common Kingsnakes (Advanced Vivarium Systems)

Bad Science
This is a decent book as far as pet care is concerned, but much of the scientific and taxonomic information is off. For instance, the picture labeled as a Florida kingsnake (L. getula floridana) is actually an Apalachicola kingsnake (L. getula meansi). Even if they consider that to be a variation of L. getula floridana, which some herpetologists do, but most do not, it still wouldn't be typical of the subspecies. Then they go on to list the Apalachicola kingsnake as L. getula goini, which was a classification abandoned nearly a decade before the publication of this book. Basically, this is a pet trade quality publication. Nothing more.

Nice book. Very informative.

Unimpressive, poorly edited
This is a typical pet-shop-quality volume, with basic (and in some cases dubious) information. Suitable for novices, although there's nothing here that can't be found for free with a web search. Definitely nothing definitive, authoritative, or useful to the specialist.

i eagerly awaited publication of this book & wasn't disappointed. like other AVS publications - of which I own "Corn Snakes: the Comprehensive Owners Guide", "The Art of Keeping Snakes" & "What's Wrong With My Snake" - this is a fantastic introduction to keeping king & milk snakes for beginners which also contains a wealth of information for the experienced herpetoculturist, giving great detail on the different morphs. last, but not least, the colour photographs are an excellent tool to aid identification of these beautiful snakes both in the wild & in captivity.

Excellent starting book!!!
Astonishing book for people starting in the hobby, quality information easy to digest.Shipping wasn't good, ordered 3 books hopefully this one was in between them, so didn't suffer the trip, can't say the same for the others, new books but already worn off cause a bad procedure.
