If you are okay with price, I think it is a decent option.I recently ordered new 849 pen. The pen came with medium black, but I wanted to try the fine line.It is not comparably finer than the medium, but it writes as smooth as the medium.So far, I love it.

These are the best writing cartridges anywhere
I modified mine slightly to fit a Mont Blanc pen. The Caran pens are a bit skinny.
