Bad Documentation! Poor Customer Support
This review is for Rostra, the manufacturer, not Hayward, Inc. the seller, who tried to help. I am trying to install this in my 2011 Ford E-150 van; however, the date on the installation instructions is 09-14-10. The applicability on their website indicates my van is included, but the document only show "2009 - 2010" models covered. The first difference I noted is on the connector for the ABS. Step 4 of the instructions states the connection is to be made to "the yellow wire in pin 28 of this connector and Figure 11 shows the connector to have 38 pins. My truck's connector has 45 (see photo). I contacted Rostra's service tech and he stated the connection should be made to "the yellow wire" and insisted it was "entwined" (i.e. twisted) with the purple/white wire. You can see from the 2nd photo, none of the exposed wires in this connector are twisted! I then asked about the purpose of the relay diagram on the last page and was told in a very abrupt manor that it was required if the brake switch contacts were not referenced to ground. It is a pretty well know fact on the E-150, it is NOT referenced to ground, so the relay would be required, yet this is ONLY mentioned in the troubleshooting section and not in the installation instruction or on the additional parts list. When I complained about this poor and misleading clause, the tech hung up on me. I called back and complained to his supervisor, but he was completely unsupportive and suggested I return the unit, which I may do.I consider this a serious flaw and a potential safety hazard. Making an improper connection to something on the ABS module could not only damage that system, but also present cause the vehicle to misoperate and result in damage and/or serious injury. Rostra needs to be more specific and accurate with their documentation and instructions. The could also learn a little more about how to treat their customers if they want to stay in business!OBTW, I have a BS in Electrical Engineering, designed industrial control systems for 28 years and was a safety engineering consultant for 7 years.
