Fun, interactive, concerns raised about plastics! Beautifully illustrated too, well written story.
Princess Poppy is an amazing character, she is one to admire and brings a very important message to children alike.Once again this book is not only well written and a joy to read, it is also beautifully illustrated, with bright colours on every page, you are sure to find something interesting to look at, while enjoying the story, perfect for various ages. The story itself is something that any child or adult can relate to, as Poppy spends time with her Grandpa (who was also in the previous book), she reads about a competition about saving the planet and designing something that would stop people using plastics, by replacing it with something more environmentally friendly! As they arrive at the beach they start to enjoy themselves, doing all the things they love to do at the beach, along with starting to clean the beach from all the rubbish they find, especially plastics! Sidney - Poppy's dog, is enjoying himself too, until one point where he thinks it is a good idea to play with a plastic bag, this doesn't turn out well for Sidney! With a visit from the vet quickly needed! This part of the storyline I thought was very well written, it brings the issue of plastics more to reality, as not all children will see or understand that sea animals can get hurt by plastics.Within the story there are lots of facts that are discussed about the problems that plastics create, it is good to see adults and children talking openly about the concerns raised. This would make a good opportunity for the reader to talk to the child/ren about this too. With Poppy back home and researching more into the plastic problems and who it affects, she designs her competition entry, with the hope to win the prize to visit the seals.I love these books, they are great fun to read and they are ideal for all age groups. At the back of the books there are always facts about the story, with this one Grandpa visits again with his plastic facts, along with how to be plastic free! For the younger readers (I also enjoy this!) there is 'find the creatures and plastics' within the illustrations fun.I would definitely recommend these books, they are ones that you can read over and over again! The new paperbacks also have these beautifully designed edges!
