Good filter for the money
This product seems to be a fairly decent quality, however it provided very little direction on how to put it together. You will also need a pump to make it work. We purchased this item to use with an aquatic turtle. We just got the tubes down to the correct water level. The little plastic connectors that they give you to connect the filter together were very small so I used zip ties. After using it a few days I've realized its not going to be good enough for a turtle tank. I'm sure it would work fine with fish.

Undergravel filter
I've had fish tanks for over 25 years, except for the past 6 years. For Christmas I purchase a new 37 gallon tank. I have always used an undergravel filter as a second filter with my other tanks in the past. I have never had a problem with maintenance or anything. I purchase this filter, but when I assembled it the flow tubes were way to short for my new tank. "No problem," I thought, I'll just pick up some tube and cut it to the link I need. After all, I've done this before. I went to 4 pet stores (1 being an aquarium store), plus looked online, with no luck finding more tubes. I was told that undergravel filters are outdated and almost never used anymore. So I can not use the filter. I sold it on Ebay and because it was a great price on Amazon, I made my money back. The filter was good, easy to assemble. It probably would have been a good filter if I could have used it.

Bought for my 20L didn't work for me.
I gave this 3 stars cause just didn't work right for me but construction of the item was great held up nice just didn't filter well. All I had in the tank was 4 fancy guppies and a Cory. Could be I did something wrong I don't know. I installed this in my tank and hooked the air up but really didn't want to flow right and I had two air pumps one cheap one and one real nice one. But still didn't want to work right. I wanted something that I could not see filtration but this was just not a good fit. I finally went with a canister filter with uv light when I upgraded tanks (40 breaded) this thing is awesome and I paid like 50 bucks for it. The under gravel filter might be better for a smaller tank but for that 20L didn't work so great.

Lee's must have fixed mfg defects of slots fill. As to the reviews about clogging...Use a colander when pre-rinsing your gravel.
20L/29/26S came as all one piece. I saw the other reviews about some of the slots being filled in. Lee's must have fixed that. As to the reviews about clogging...Use a colander when pre-rinsing your gravel. All the tiny chips and stones come out and do not clog your filter. This is what a colander looks like (picked that one because holes were most visible.) Now Designs Metal Colander, 3-Quart, Turquoise A small mesh strainer in the drain is a good idea too (this one allows particles under it but you get the idea.) Works great so far!
So far so good. Was a little bit of a pain to attach pieces (the rubber bands are teeeennny and thick-but guess that's good, keeps the plates locked in place), but overall super simple to set up. I did soak the carbon filters and rinse well before installing into the tank. Love that the box provided one extra set of tubes, filters and tube attachments, for replacing broken parts or whatnot in the future. Would definitely recommend

Very good but be careful.
Excellent design. BE SURE TO DO DRY RUN BEFORE BREAKING OUT PLASTIC DIVIDERS. Go slow and stay alert. It's a simple puzzle that will work well if you understand the design concept. Also, best to remove existing biologicals prior to placement. Best to place in new start-up -so as not to stress critters.

The undergravel filter works pretty great, except it's a little small for a 29 gallon tank. If you connect all three pieces you have about an inch on either side of the filter and that doesn't work if you have frogs or shrimp that like to go underneath it. I just added more gravel to the sides. All in all it doesn't a pretty good job.

I have had the undergravel filter for the past week now, had to problems with the shipping. So far so good, the key element is having a fairly good air pump. Just be careful when separating the compartments, it sames a little fragile.
