Disappointing.
After seeing the new edition of this book highlighted on yahoo, and being a garage sale junkie, I pre-ordered it with great anticipation. The author begins the book by saying (at some length) that he's going to give you tremendous insight into the entire process that you can't find anywhere else. And that insight is...buy old Barbie dolls instead of Beanie Babies...have your garage sale on a Saturday not a Monday...look on craigslist for garage sales...well duh!Is there anyone that doesn't already know these things? The author probably is indeed a nice guy (like the previous reviewer said), but there's very little in this book that's not just common sense (or freely available on the internet with a google search on "garage sale profit"). Furthermore, the last fifth of the book is a glossary of terms...I was still hungry for advice at that point, not a dictionary. For a more useful guide on what to buy (and why), I would recommend the book "Killer Stuff and Tons of Money: An Insider's Look at the World of Flea Markets, Antiques, and Collecting" by Maureen Stanton. It's a more interesting read (particularly the first half), with more specific real-world examples and behind-the-scenes stories.

Novices guide to Garage Sales
I sure wish I had read the reviews on this book before purchasing. Very little real information inside of this book for anyone but the newest novice to garage sales, ebay, craigs list etc. And you know what.. the author didn't even mention selling on the River that I noticed. And this is the "revised" edition. Lets see if I can condense the contents: You must own a computer, use ebay to check the value of stuff, negotiate 50% off the sellers price when you buy, deal with reputable art galleries like the author (who plugged his art gallery in the book), don't buy beanie babies, US Coins, gold and silver are good values, Other countries coins are NOT good values unless they are gold or silver.. duh! Ok there you go.. just saved you $14.00Good stuff for novices: 1 page list of things to buy and not to buy. Note: Anyone with any experience already knows 95% of this list and those without experience but with any common sense knows at least 50%. How to negotiate was ok, if you didn't know how to already use words and body language to get the best deal anyway that is.So, if you are a beginner this book might do you some good. Those that are already serious about finding hidden gems have already easily discovered on their own with experience, research and hard work and should avoid this publication. Also, the binding on mine wasn't to hot. Several pages came loose as I was reading this looking for anything useful. Not quality binding.Final thought, I wouldn't buy this book again at a Garage Sale for a quarter, it would be overpriced.

What a sorry excuse for a book!
Wasn't even going to comment on this book but now that I have been asked.... Here is what I think. Shocked is what I am, shocked that this particular Publisher would even let a book like this out the front door.... The book is Titled "The Garage Sale Millionaire" (yeah, yeah, I realize there is a sub-title) and yet, in a book that is roughly 242 pages long (including 53 pages of "Terms") there are about 26 pages that are really about Garage Sales. Most of the book is about being an Art Collector/Sales, a Comic Book Icon, or a Coin Collector. The book seems to be a advertizement of his interests (and floundering in hard times along with an attempt to use the purchaser of the book). The last comment refers to him selling an additional booklet by way of an ad in the end of this book that is merely a copy of information you have already purchased; the booklet is merely the gathering of all the sidebars already in the book.Sounds as if his business has been floundering to me and he wants everyone to know he is ready and willing to help everyone out (because he has such a pure heart no doubt). Somehow I feel violated....For those that don't care for my comments; I am not USUALLY this harsh, but was asked to do and honest review and that is how I see it!
