This worked ok for my budgies (parakeets). There were no assembly instructions...so I assembled like the picture. Assembled that way it was so unstable. If the weight wasn't balanced exactly, it tipped. And the top (star shaped) piece slid around, making the tipping worse. Since I assume my budgies will climb on everything I put in the cage, I didn't trust the sliding top wouldn't catch a foot. So I reassembled upside down (the star (top) piece on the bottom and the dome covering it). I filled the cup, pulled the star over it, and held it together while flipping (to the new) right side up. Then, I hung it in the cage. I ended up putting whole berries and greens, sprinkled with seed inside. The birdies had a blast picking the fruit and seeds through the holes. They massacred the contents but the mess was totally worth it. I think chunks of softer veggies (like cucumber or squash) would work well, too.I'll note that when I first received it, I thought it was way too big for budgies. My small birds are used to nibbling large chunks of food so I could put whole pieces or large chunks in the bowl. The feeding holes are very big...big enough that the birds could remove whole blueberries without smooshing them.Overall, I'd say this product was not designed for small birds, but with some modification can be an enjoyable challenge for curious budgies. I will continue to use occasionally for treats.
