Formerly manufactured by Estwing as the "Gem Scoop", you now have the Fundamental Rockhound's Treasure Scoop, the PERFECT tool for rockhounding and beachcombing available to you. Estwing stopped making these lapidary tools about several years ago and they've been sorely missed by the rockhound and beachcomber communities. Estwing licensed the "Gem Scoop" and engineering specifications to Fundamental Rockhound so they could manufacture the Treasure Scoop to the original specifications. This model is the ---- 42 inch model ---- which was never actually manufactured by Estwing but a needed length for taller people. (The 36" is recommended for most people)j Rockhounds and beach combers are always bent over! Add more enjoyment to your trip by using the Treasure Scoop to cut out some of the back-breaking work! You'll be able to walk upright after the weekend! Rockhounds are snake bit on the back of the hand or on the cheek more than anywhere else. The Treasure Scoop reaches into snakes' possible hiding places, keeping hands and face farther back from the danger area. The Treasure Scoop is handy as a walking stick when you're climbing over the rocks seeking out those specimens or moving to that next little section of beach.

The Long Arm Needed in Rock Hounding
All of us who have been rock hounding have had those occassions when you saw the rock you really wanted, but it was 4 feet beyond your ourstretched arm or two feet deep in a stream or in the midst of a thicket of cactus. This is the tool for you--strong, long, well shaped cup, has a little digging point on the bottom. It is a bit heavy, but you want strong as you are levering up a big rock. Perhaps a folding joint in the middle would be useful, but it might make it weaker than it ought to be, so it is pretty darn near perfect for the job intended.

Exactly What I needed
I am an Agate hunter on Lake Superior (when I can get there). This tool is perfect for me and my rock-hunting friend. I went with the longer handle so I could get a few inches deeper into the lake if necessary. This item was shipped on time and was exactly as described.

Nice scoop
Have used this a few times while walking the beaches looking for "interesting" things like shells and teeth. It is of sturdy construction and works well as a walking stick, scoop and scraper. Now I have to buy my wife one with the short (or normal length) handle.

Great Tool
I have owned one of these scoops for several years. When we go rock collecting, my wife always wanted me to share it. She now has her own, not sure which of us is happier. Great tool for picking up anything, especially rocks in places you don't want to put your hands.

comfortable, lightweight
Well designed and constructed, comfortable, lightweight, effective as walking stick, small rake or hoe, and retrieval scoop. Had only a couple months, so durability unknown, but appears comparable to Estwing quality. Much stronger than collapsible walking stick, but not much heavier.Delivery quicker than projected...couple days.
