GIGAMICHanayama 5049 L'oeuf Puzzle

When the package arrived I heard something rattling around in the box; opened it up, and one of the little balls that holds the thing together had fallen off (you can see it in the ad pic, right in the middle). I was going to return immediately, but decided to see if it would fix easily. I pushed the little ball back on the peg, and couldn't get it back off, so figured, great, it's fixed! But then when I started fiddling w/ it, it fell apart again, so I returned. May be a prob w/ all this type Hanayama, maybe not, but I didn't re-order. Didn't like the movement. I don't think it's as well made as my other Hanayama's, wh/is too bad, the others are great.

Cast L'oeuf is a clever labyrinth type puzzle. Well made, nice big size, with plenty of twists and turns that keep you intrigued. You can solve it with diligence, you may stumble across the solution, but the real fun comes from trying to figure out how to smoothly and quickly take it apart and then reassemble it again. Once of the better Hanayama cast puzzles!

It's a very nice puzzle but it breaks super easy. I am advising you not to buy it. I got it apart but it broke while I was putting it back together. It requires a little force but the peg is holding onto a tiny piece of metal. It will break 100% if you use it much at all. I bought mine from puzzle master but it's the same thing.

This is another excellent cast puzzle from the well recognized puzzle designer from the Nerherlands,Oscar van Deventer.He is a well known figure and award winner at the Annual World Puzzle Design Competition.At this competition ,the world's top puzzle designers are invited to come and compete against other designers to see who has come up with the best puzzles. Shaped like an egg ,the French word for egg being "L'Oeuf";the puzzle consists of three pieces.One side of the egg is Gold ,the other side is Silver.Each side has a maze in it.The two sides are held together with a smaller Silver piece .The Gold side and the small Silver piece each have a post topped by a ball.It's these posts that hold it all together ,and by minuplating the posts through the mazes,the challenge is to separate them and later re-assemble them. I found the puzzle to be very well made with more than substantial cast metal,and can't see any reason why some find it is fragile and easily broken.All I can imagine is that excessive force must have been used.Generally speaking,excessive force is seldom ,if ever,required to solve puzzles. Hanayama have assigned a Difficulty Level of 4 out of 6 to this puzzle.At one time ,if you couldn't solve a puzzle ,one would write the manufacturer,enclosing a self addressed envelope and some money,and they would send you a solution.However,PuzzleMaster will e-mail you a solution or if you prefer,a tutorial on solving the puzzle can be found on YouTube. With most good puzzles or brainteasers,such as Hanayama,even if you have solved the puzzle once,all is not lost;put it away for a while and it can be a challenge all over again.

I have always been a fan of the Hanayama Cast puzzles - and I enjoyed solving this one. What I can't abide is the fact that 10 days after I bought it, it broke in half. I have never had this happen before, and I have always had good experiences with all the cast puzzles from Hanayama; but I couldn't believe that after only 10 days, the silver side broke apart. There is no way of contacting them, so I don't know if I can replace it - I just know that I am very disappointed, but pleased that I was actually able to solve it before it broke. Can I get a replacement?

Though not purchased on Amazon, I am giving this review as a warning to get the thicker puzzles rather than this one. Unfortunately, I too found that the metal used to make this puzzle was too flimsy to withstand the use it was given. Sure enough I strained the silver side too much and... snap. No one's fault but my own, especially considering what I payed for the item. Please buy one of the other ones instead.

What I liked best about this purchase was the seller! There was a wee defect, and the seller sent me a replacement within a week! The replacement puzzle did not have the defect and we've solved it. This seller was sweet, and contacted me to make sure I was happy.

Very "Hanayamish" puzzle: unique, visually beautiful, high quality, and very enjoyable. Difficulty level 4, which seems right. (One of the reviewers wrote he can solve it by just moving the pieces randomly, but that seems strange to me. At least it will come apart much faster if you have the appropriate "plan".)

Bin leider sehr enttäucht über die Qualität, ich besitze schon 8 dieser Knobelspiele doch bei diesem ist nach leichten hackenbleiben der Führungsstifte einer sofort abgebrochen.Dieser Stift ist aus Guss gewesen.Leider war ich so sauer das ich das Ding in den Müll geworfen habe...gut für den Verkäufer schlecht für mich (Umtausch) Egal sowas kann ich auf keinen Fall meinen Freunden empfehlen.Sehr schade.Ne glatte 6
