Cuppa London has changed
I’ve been buying Cuppa London tea for years. Initially I purchased it at a specialty shop that sells British goods and later started ordering it on Amazon. I recently ordered the large size of 440 Cuppa London tea bags only because Amazon no longer offers smaller quantities. The 1st thing I noticed is the tea bags are no longer round, they are square. Okay, maybe that’s not a big deal; however, when I compared the amount of tea in the new square tea bag to the amount in the old round tea bag there’s approx one third less tea (leaves) in each square tea bag. I now have to use 2 square tea bags instead of a single round one to get a similar strength pot of tea. Shrink-flation!! Did they assume customers wouldn’t notice? I’m very disappointed in their tactic and in the strength of the tea. In general it seems less full-bodied than it used to be. I won’t be ordering again. And I’m certain the Brits would not choose this tea!

Bring back the round bags
I have enjoyed this tea for over 15 years and am very disappointed not to have the round bags. I purchased a 440 count bag of the square ones and the taste and strength is nothing compared to the round bags. I wish I could return what I have left-which is a lot. I may have to double up in order to get the taste and strength I am used to.

Great value
I love that I can get a good strong cup of black tea and for a bargain price. I have read the other reviews criticizing the round vs square tea bags... I have not noticed a significant taste difference. My only complaint is the square bags do have inconsistent seals along the edges. I have had a few come open while steeping. This has been an inconvenience but not a deal breaker for me. 440 bags of tea for $20 or less is still a great price. Enjoy!

Amazing Tea, but HORRIBLE packaging.
I am a London Cuppa loyal. I first found the tea at a local discount outlet. It was the loose tea tin and priced for only a few dollars. I was hooked! This is by far my favorite basic, strong black tea. A drop of honey and milk and I'm in heaven. It was well worth the non-discounted price (although slightly shocked at the difference) available on Amazon. This large bag is the most economical option if you love the product. However, I've purchased three separate orders (each lasts about a year for us) with three different experiences. The first was perfect. Each bag intact and the expiration about a year out. In the second order about a sixth of the bags were not sealed properly. Annoying, but I typically use loose leaf so no biggie. The third order (March 2014) was terrible. Most of the bags were not sealed properly (about 95%) and the expiration date was four months out. For a cafe that goes through tea like mad this would not be an issue, except the broken bags preventing convenient single-serve options. For me, who enjoys them slowly with friends over a year it was frustrating. The larger bag/outer packaging was ripped causing them to be slightly stale. The constant emptying of broken bags into a brew basket or tossing a seemingly good bag into a cup, only to find tea chunks floating in my cup, was the worst part. Had I noticed the rip and not expected a few bad bags, it would have been sent back ASAP. As the bad bag count climbed, so did my disappointment. I am back to place my fourth yearly order; however I will take the kick in the wallet and order the smaller boxes. I'm not sure if the company is having the issue or this particular packaging changed but I will not be accidentally dumping scoops worth of tea on the counter, floor or down the drain again. This lovely tea is far too good for that!

Good Strong Black Tea, Hot or Iced
We have been looking for a good tasting black tea that is economical to use. My mom drinks tea every day but is blind so bag tea is best for her. She is happy with this tea and I tried a bag in the Krupps coffee maker and it worked beautifully. Iced it has a smooth taste without bitterness.

Side by side comparison of square bags vs round
So I really have been drinking London cuppa tea for years now. When they changed over from round bags to square bags it has totally thrown me off. I kept thinking the square bags were not the same and that there must be a difference. Today while cleaning out my tea cupboard I found another couple bags of the round London Cuppa I decided to do a side-by-side comparison to put my mind at ease or to confirm that they were different. Now mind you I am no scientist. I put each bag in a mason jar added the same amount of water and gave it a full five minutes to determine the outcome. In the first minute the round bag was noticeably different and darker brew. I thought for sure it was a positive test For trickery. I let it brew the full five minutes and there was no difference. I am thinking that the shape of the bag affects the way a brews and then just giving it a little bit more time makes them equal in color. The round on flavor comparison was a little more bitter but that could be that the bag is older. I did like the bitter flavor more and it does remind me of they way the use to be. Maybe the tea leaves are nicer and kinder in the square bags. I do prefer angst ridden bitter leaves they match my soul so much better.I understand why they went to square bags there’s less waste of tea bag material. I do so for some reason still miss the round ones though.
