This compass delivers superior accuracy, even in the most demanding conditions. The split-sighting mirror ensures superior accuracy when navigating on distant landmarks. The baseplate has three scales for quick, easy plotting with a topographic map. Silicone feet provide positive grip on a map. The geared declination allows you to set and forget the declination for the area you are in, ensuring constant compensation for this variable when taking bearings. A clinometer lets you measure angles of inclination.1:24,000 map scale.1:25,000 and 1:50,000 romer scales.Clinometer. Magnifying lens. Luminous markings for use a night. Geared declination adjustment. Silicone feet keep the compass from sliding on a map. Includes lanyard Classic compasses, lid & mirror with more knurling for easier rotation/grip 1-piece mirror with etched sighting line down the center for a precise readout of bearing when sighting New luminous; 4X more intense than watch grade and does not degrade over time 0°-360° dial, 2° graduations with luminous points for night use Clinometer, map magnifier

Good design for a baseplate sighting compass, but the hinge is bad and brittle.
I liked the general features of the compass, which compared favorably with my very old Silva Ranger.I especially like the small sighting hole down low on the mirror which allows for an alternate sighting method. The declination adjustment works well. The mirror is not extremely flat, but it works well enough for viewing the needle and scale while sighting. But the hinge on the mirror was loose, so it wouldn't stay at 45 degrees for sighting work, which is a big problem. Then while opening it about the 10th time, parts of the hinge snagged on each other and a piece of the plastic hinge chipped and popped out.The plastic is very brittle and the hinge fit is bad. More pieces of hinge have chipped out and the compass is no longer useful. The center line on the mirror is much too faint, so it is hard to align your sighting view.

Don't waste your money unless you need a toy or a prop for a costume
Well, I wasn't expecting perfection but I was at least expecting more than a toy. Unfortunately, if I were relying on this thing to navigate with I would have problems. First, there is tons of play in the declination setting, which means I can inadvertently (and quite easily) knock my orienting arrow off by 1 or 2 degrees even with the set screw fully tightened. Second, there is also a ton of play between the inner and outer bezel. In other words they do not turn together until a a couple of degrees of slack have been taken up. That means that when taking a bearing, the orienting arrow (controlled by inner red bezel) can be off by a few degrees from the outer black bezel that has your degree markings. Finally, and this one is on me for not checking and just assuming Amazon return policy, this seller does not allow returns/offer refunds. So, if you are looking for a toy compass for your child for a costume or so they imitate you while you are using a real compass like a Suunto then this might work. Otherwise, spend the extra money for a real tool. I knew better too, but I'm so used to Amazon's generous return policy that I got bitten. Now the Suunto I should have bought in the first place just costs that much more as I pay my stupidity tax.

Accurate compass, easy to use
Just got this and checked against my iPhone compass app. Assuming that is accurate, they were in agreement. I am not sure what others are saying, but I could turn the bezel just fine. Mirror had protective plastic sheet and was unblemished when I took it off. The black cover snaps closed so won’t have to worry about it opening. Can’t speak to how long it will last, but I think it will be just fine for my needs—Boy Scout adult leader with occasional use. Happy with purchase.

Awesome compass
Can I just say how much I love this compass? After a career in the military for two decades, I'm quite familiar with compasses. This one is awesome! Lightweight, clearly marked, easy to zero. I also like you can use it for declination. I bought it for twin cub scouts and they have enjoyed their first orienteering lesson...if only this seller could get them to count their steps consistently! Great product

More than I expected.
This thing is great. Comparable to a lot of other compasses, in terms of features and needle accuracy, at 5 times the price. There is a trade-off, however, in terms of material-quality/durability. The higher end compasses are made of more durable plastics, because of that I fully believe the reviewers claiming they had issues with the hinge.Overall though I am very pleased with this compass. I don't know how long it will last, but I do know that replacing it will hurt the wallet a LOT less than replacing a Suunto, K&R, Silva or some other compass with identical features.

workable with potential
The price was right and the reviews were pretty good across the tube so I gave it a try. Interestingly, it's heavier than my Suunto of that same style. Will it replace any of my similar Suunto's....no. But, it will go into a ruck and be used. Without a full year of weather conditions and use afield, I can't recommend this for use a your primary compass....time will tell. As a backup with a good signal mirror (very important IMO), sure, give it a try.

Has every feature of more expensive compasses
It is feature rich and functions properly. I am only giving it 4 stars because it's ridiculously low price makes me wonder about it's durability. Some reviewers complained about the plastic being brittle. I just ordered a second one as a backup since when you need a compass, you need one that is working. At this price, a backup seems like a good idea.?

Sturdy and comparable to ones that is more expensive
I owned a couple of compasses, but this one is actually worth the money. Brunton TruArc 15 Compass is more expensive, but this one does the job needed, plus a good adjustable magnetic declination screw (which I affixed it with a string). It lacks a bubble level which can easily be solved by buying packs of such bubble level, fix a small 1cm one on with super glue.
