Sears, Roebuck & Co.: The Best of 1905-1910 Collectibles

The catalog gives a nice insight into products available at the turn of the 20th century.

So disappointing. I was so excited to discover these volumes exist — so much Americana, and fascinating history and graphics, but the paper is cheap and the ink is worse. The image and text reproductions are shady and unpleasant to actually read.If someone really showed this project love they’d create better reproductions and also thin it out. There’s a lot of repetition, they could cut 70-80 pages easily and make it a coffee table book to enjoy. It’s still vital if you’re doing period research, and enjoyable to flip, but only makes you wish it had gotten properly produced, may as well be a door-stop as is. :(

I love old sears catalogues. I picked up a 1900 reproduction at a used book sale for a quarter a few months ago and have been obsessed since. I love looking at all the different items you could buy and marvel at the prices, which are nothing like today. For someone like me, it's fun to look at the dolls and toys, jewelry, and this huge book is no disappointment. it is hours of fun, and something you will come back to again and again.

This Catalog is just fine when I think about the goods it has. It is really interesting to compare the prices and funny to see how they told about the items those days. Everything was really superior. Well, the items manufactured those days were really well made when you compare them to today's products but some of them are clearly not so true.I have many original old catalogs and some 70's reprints and I must say that the images were much nicer and much better those days. This catalog (as so many others) have too deep contrast and all the gray scales are missing. these images look too deep and too "hard". This makes them look some kind of blurry if you see what I mean. There should be other scales that white and black. These images look like the pen has had too much ink and the lines are blurry.

This the best book! The illustrations are wonderful, the pictures are very clear, and the descriptions are amazingly accurate. I love comparing the prices in 1910 to what we pay for items now.

Very informative, but the print is very small and seems like products dont very much year to year during this time period.

Unlike the picture shown in the ad for the catalog, none of the photos are shown in color or with that level of detail. I'm using the catalog to help research what people wore in 1905 for my new novel. There is, however, enough information here to help, but this ad was misleading.
