Give Bees a Chance

Every teacher needs to own this book for her class. Every child needs to read this book!
I purchased this book, mainly because I'm a beekeeper and love anything bees, last year through my sons preschool program. Honestly, I myself hadn't read it, just adding it to my bee stuff, until I heard my 9 year old reading it to her brothers a few months ago.Wow was it good.I am so impressed with how the author relates the not so great feeling of being stung through her character, Edgar, but how even though bees do sting, they are 100% good for the Earth and mankind. I appreciate how she mentions that you just gently blow on bees to go away and explain why they sting and such.It was so relatable to children. As a mother, I really appreciate this book to not be afraid of bees. As a beekeeper, I am thankful that the author took time to accurately learn about bees and throw tons of bee facts. I love how she explains how honey is made and bee atanomy. I feel too many bee books focus on honey and not so much bees- even though they are he same thing. My 6 year old who loves bugs keeps tossing around facts. He even tells his friends at school bees are good when they freak out over bees. Our company was asked to teach a class of children at a school for an entire hour, and I sent this book (before I read it) and another children's bee book with my co-worker. He said he chose this book to read to the children and they loved it.I love this book so much that I purchased this one from Amazon for my sons future classroom.Bees are disappearing in human populated areas because of pesticides meant for other bugs, and the fear that "everyone is allergic to bees" is no help (no thanks to the 1991 movie "my girl"). Less than .01 percent of the population is allergic, and those need an epi pen. Everyone will swell up when stung, until someone's been stung a couple of hundred times, even then my co worker still swells when stung on the face, and my husband when stung on the bicep. But the benifit of the bee greatly outweighs the rare sting. And off of my soapbox I go.This book was 1 inch wider and taller than my first book through scholastic and I think the price was the same.I recommend this book to children and adults alike. It needs to be a part of every school library

Such a cute book!
My 6-year-old daughter has read this book about a million times already! It is such a cute little story with beautiful pictures and a sweet message. She is already asking for the others from this author now! The book came super fast and was in perfect condition as well!

BEE-UTIFUL BOOK!
What a great book, especially for teachers! This book gives information about bees in a fantastically fun way, as well as dispelling fears of bees. The reader learns about bees while having fun. The graphics are great, as well. I used it for teaching visual literacy (i.e., why did the illustrator frame this picture in a honeycomb), which is more and more a part of reading education. Highly recommend!!!

Perfect for my students!
This book was the perfect tool for teaching my 7th and 8th graders (most of whom HATE reading) the basics of argumentation. Very engaging book and I was impressed with the number of easy-to-understand facts it contained. Definitely check out the author's other works, they're worth it!

I LOVE this book
Just a great book. Kid friendly illustrations mixed with accurate identification. Very informative about activities and worth of bees while still recognizing how getting stung by one hurts and can make you not like them at all. Kudos to the author.

Wonderful book for the family
Our six y.o. neighbor was fearful of bees . Now he knows the importance of bees, is less afraid and is more knowledgeable about the environment.

Very informative book.
This book has lots of bee information. The child I gave it to is smart but a bit younger than the age suggests. She loves books and insisted I read it to her.She liked it.
