Get one for every car, and learn how to use it
I bought an original LifeHammer years ago, after a friend nearly drowned by skidding off-road into a canal. I bought these Exlights when I handed off my LifeHammer to my teen driver. I have used the cutter blade to slice through a tangled tie-down strap on my car, so I can vouch for effectiveness of that part of this tool; I'm crossing my fingers that the glass-breaking end will be as effective in a real emergency. In the photo below, you can see my original LifeHammer next to this Exlight hammer. There are cosmetic differences, but they are very very slight. The weight of each hammer is almost exactly the same: LifeHammer was 100g, Exlight was 102g. They feel the same in hand as well. Getting 2 Exlights for less than the price I paid for my LifeHammer was a major bonus.Note: being able to break a window or cut a jammed seatbelt is important, but you need to also learn other skills to improve your odds of escaping an underwater wreck. Don't stop at just buying this tool, head to the Internet and study up on escape methods!

Saved our truck. Every vehicle should have one!!
In our experience these hammers are literally life/car-saving.They are sturdy and heavy duty. I tested the blade out on some jeans and it works great, and the window end will break through if you put some force behind it. You can put the hammer inside your console or try to attach them somewhere but do NOT leave them free floating.... in case of accident they will fly around and you need it easily accessible at all times or its purpose is moot. Our story: My husband initially laughed and rolled his eyes when I bought these....regardless of his opinion I added them to both of our vehicle's center consoles.A few months later in the middle of nowhere Colorado about 1.5 hours away from any civilization.... a few flames randomly erupted from under the hood of our heavily inve$ted into truck. This is a truck that is very well maintained and has had no issues ever so this was beyond shocking. (Turns out that a mechanic had dropped a shop rag in the engine while doing turbo work and the rag had settled just perfectly enough to be missed by all of us at final inspection.)Now, seeing flames from under your hood is scary enough. That specific day it was about -15degrees F with a colder wind factor due to the approaching snow storm. We were pulling a 20 ft trailer that was loaded with a few thousand dollars worth of new furniture. At that exact moment we were on a 2 lane highway in snowy NW CO in a mountain-section with no cell service and nowhere to immediately pull over, with an almost 2 week old baby in the backseat. I was recovering from birth surgery and was very limited in movement. I know this sounds dramatic and almost exaggerated and I wish that were the case. It was TERRIFYING.Thankfully our little emergency kit and this hammer were easily accessible. My husband finished the blind turn we were coming up on and stopped the truck in the middle of this empty highway, grabbed the kit & hammer from our console while i went for the baby and blankets etc.He popped the hood and used up most of the fire extinguisher. He extinguished just enough of the flames long enough to pinpoint the cause. His gloved hand wouldn't fit in there so quick thinking he used the seatbelt-cutter side of this exact tool to pull the (still partially flaming) rag out via the driver wheel well and tossed it in the snow, then emptied the remainder of the extinguisher on what was still smoking in the engine compartment. His fast action resulted in the engine not catching fire so we agreed to slowly creep on until we had enough cell service. The next town's diesel shop owner agreed to inspect every inch of this truck once we made it in, and unknown to us at the time dispatched his son out immediately to find us just to err on the side of caution. (Seriously Coloradans are the best).....Thankfully our truck made it all the way without hiccup and after my husband made an extremely angry call to the guilty shop's owner they agreed to foot the expenses of this situation. The son who came to find us was thrilled to have the opportunity to immediately clean off and inspect/change any damage while charging the other shop "holiday" rates.... all while discussing different aftermarket parts with my husband. Literally like two boys hanging out in dad's garage at that point ;) To this day our truck is still with us and kicking butt and just as awesome as ever.So in long story the combination of this hammer and fire extinguisher cost us maybe $35 and saved our truck from fully catching on fire. This hammer also saved us from having to walk in below zero degree weather with our new baby to call for help. We were able to make it home safe all thanks to this little tool. :)

Cost effective peace of mind
When I saw the news story about Jamie Foxx saving someone using such a device (to cut seat belts) I decided that we needed them in our cars. Of course I haven't used the item so I can't say how well it actually works. What I can say is that it seems well built. One complaint though, it seems that they expect you to mount it in your car using drill holes and screws. Not only are the screws not included but I don't want to drill into my car. I wish they had instead sent double sided stick pads or similar to mount it. For now, I tossed it in the center console as I figured the glove box was too far away from the driver seat.

Good to Have In Case of Emergency, Hope to Never Have to Use it.
This is a good deal, I'm sure it would work and I hope I never have to use it. I bought these after seeing a news story about a man who saved a women and her child from a burning car. The women was unconscious and the man had to break her window and cut her seatbelt to get it off. I figured it would be a good thing to have in case of emergency. I like that it comes with a mounting bracket thing and it's well made for what it is, and what I paid for it. I ordered this slightly larger variation because it could also be used in a pinch for self defense if you had to, which is nice.I gave the other one to my brother.- A

Essential safety item for the auto
Of course I have never used this, fortunately, but it is a product that EVERYONE should have handy in their automobiles in case of an accident or, worse, a submerged automobile. It could be a lifesaver. I keep mine right under my driver's seat near the front. It doesn't slip around on the carpeting. It's heavy and high quality ... and something you should have.

Every car should have one especially for this price.
Haven't had to use it and hope it stays that way but I know the design is proven and the inclusion of a belt cutter is a plus. I wish it came with Velcro as well but that was an easy fix with a quick to the hardware store. I keep my velcrod to the lid of my center console so it doesn't get stuck down in the clutter.

Bought these in response to all the people that drowned ...
Bought these in response to all the people that drowned in their cars here in SC during the recent floods. This is a MUST for every motorist! This one is heavy enough to bust a window but small enough not to be in the way. Wished they had used magnets or self-lifting tape for the mount, though.

Inexpensive peace of mind.
This is one of those items that you hope you'll never need (like an airbag, or self defense pistol), but if you need it, nothing else will do. Pretty cheap insurance. Recommended.
