Product description From BMG Direct Music Club, Brand New, Factory Sealed .com When Tim Hauser convened the original Manhattan Transfer in the early '70s, there was more than a whiff of camp to the vocal group's pre-rock pop perspective, but what may have started with tongue-in-cheek quickly shifted into an earnest (if still good-humored) mission--the preservation of closely-arranged choral pop. From their first mid-'70s hits forward, the Transfer has gone from strength to strength, extending their reach into r&b, jazz, Brazilian pop, and even the vocal equivalent of fusion. This first-rate two-CD package focuses on their long career at Atlantic Records, where they did their best work, and is correspondingly ripe with gorgeous group and solo vocals. --Sam Sutherland

A Necessaary Staple for any Music Collection
Down in Birdland - Anthology is one of my favorite albums in my collection. It is also one of my favorite MT albums.I bought this many years ago when I first purchased a CD player...It was one of the first CD's I purchased.I have had it for years. I listen to it in the car all the time, also. This is where the problem came in.When I emptied my "musicbook" of CD's that I keep in the car, I accidently left some of the CD's in the book.Whe I went to put the CD's in their original jackets, one of the CD's was missing. I went nuts! But I couldn't find it, so I bought another copy. Right after I bought the new one, I found the missing CD right where I had left it...in the musicbook. So, I sent the old copy to my 17-year-old nephew, who loves music also. Now he will be an "MT"er like I am.If you can only buy one album by MT, THIS IS IT!Barbara

I have most of these on other MT CDs and bought this one to keep in the car. Great tunes to drive to!

Voices to compare with the sax section of the Count Basie big band
This is a must for everyone who had the good fortune to listen to these beauties over the years. They are all here to hear. Almost 40 tunes on two discs. And, almost as important, the accompanying booklet gives a very thorough history of how each member was drawn into the group from what they had be involved it, and, to me the most important sentence was the revelation that, "the group decided to orchestrate their vocals as if the four singers were the sax section of the Count Basie big band, blending soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices." WOW! That says it all.

A Good Purchase - For A Great Singing Group
Received this album via the - USED BUT VERY GOOD CONDITION - rating was exactly as advertised, not disappointed. For those who really like the sounds of blended voices, jazzy and upbeat by a truly professional group, you will love this album. One of my personal favorites is their rendition of the Classic "Route 66" song, a true foot tapping, cant help but make you want to move around song. To my knowledge these songs are all done by the original group, not a remake.

Fantastic
This is a good compliment to the Greatest Hits collection. I was surprised that there was no additional information about the artist or songs.

Pretty good.
I’m not what you would call a Manhatten Transfer fan but I do like some of there music.I had to get this second hand and I have to say it was well worth it, no jumps or visible scratches and cover in quite good condition. The first disc is in my opinion better that the second but overall a pretty slick album.

The best of Manhattan Transfer
Great overview of Manhattan Transfer's output throughout their career. A pity that this collection is reissued along with their original albums.

A trip down memory lane
No complaints about the condition of the CD, the price or the supplier. However some things are best left in the past and my musical taste is not what it was. Lesson learned.
