Great little product, very sturdy and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. The spring mech is very strong which could be considered a downside but I’d rather that than too weak, I use it with an iPhone 13 which I use as a monitor for my camera.

The grip is very strong and can snap back quite viciously if you're not careful!

This is a well made example of a phone clamp. It is an almost entirely metal construction which gives it a reassuring heft. Operation is simple in that it is spring loaded - prise the jaws open, put your phone in and let go - no tricky dials to fiddle with etc. Let’s face it there’s no shortage of options for phone holders, but this one does stand out for build quality, albeit in a more generous price bracket.Two main issues I have which stop it getting top marks. Firstly there is only a threaded mounting point on one end. So, if you are the sort of person that likes to screw a tripod in the bottom and attach a mic or light in the top you’re out of luck. Secondly, the spring loading is just a little too strong. Yes, it holds the phone more securely but it is almost impossible to work with one hand and feels like it could crush or damage anything other than a metal bodied phone - you might want to pick up a silicone case at the same time.

Very good overall with a super strong grip.A couple of suggestions for Elgato:- Make the sticker on the side easier to remove. It took me a good half hour to scrub all the adhesive off.- The corners/edges could be less sharp.- Make the grip less strong? I'm worried about my poor phone getting squeezed.

First things first: the smartphone holder is only and exactly that. If you don't already have a master mount, or some other 1/4" mounting mechanism for it, then you're going to be left holding a little, if not heavy, piece of expandable steel.But if you have a mounting solution - in my case, I've paired this with Elgato's multi-mount - then it's a wonderful bit of kit that does exactly what it says it will do: it holds a phone. In my case, it holds my Galaxy S20 in its leather case.It's all steel construction as far as I can tell. It has heft. It **grips**. If you need one, and you'll know if you will or not, then it works perfectly.
