He made a bad decision and led another soldier to his death
This was one of those books that grabs you in with sympathetic and real characters right from the start. The main character is the mother of a five year old who is struggling with the death of her husband from injuries in Afghanistan. He made a bad decision and led another soldier to his death. She struggles to build a new life but at times uses her dead husband's sedatives-not a good way to start a new life. She has very few people in her life after moving to a new area to be closer to her mother. Her daughter disappears, her drug use is discovered and she is suspected and blamed even by strangers. I guessed every person in this book to be the kidnapper...well all except the actual kidnapper. I love it when that happens and it makes sense. Many twist and turns in this well written book. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries, good fiction and not much violence

Good read and keeps you wondering up to the last few pages
Although there were some typographical errors, this was an excellent read. You must stay focused when each chapter starts so you will know is you are in present day or the past. This page turner, if you've got a great imagination, can bring you right into the book. As the mother of a young girl tries to convince herself she is doing the right thing and being a good mother the reader wants to just shake her and tell her to wake up and see what's happening! But the mother is caught up in her own self pity and uses pills to make the real world go away. In the interim she looses her sweet daughter in her own sorrow! For those who will read this book you will never guess or even come close to figuring out this unbelievable ending. Recommending this book to anyone who enjoys criminal, murder, mysteries with a " who did it plot". This book has all of that and more. Happy reading!

Good Read
Read the book pretty fast. It was well written. I especially like the short chapters. It helps to finish them because you only have a few pages left. It also helps to start them because you might as well start the next chapter. At the beginning the character development was done well. One could easily understand Toni. Her struggles, frustrations, and challenges were real. I found myself rooting for her and even being frustrated by her mistakes. She reminded me of The Girl on the Train by Hawkins; an unremarkable character who struggled with difficult life challenges. The author laid out her thought processes and calculations to the most minute detail. Her sensitivity to all the minutia made me wonder whether or not she was indecisive running herself around in circles.Evie and Harriet were also portrayed very well. The thought process and maturity level of the little girl was outlined in a realist relatable manner. The lunacy of Harriet was justifiable to point where the author set up the reader to thinking that she committed the kidnap. She actually was certifiable. But, in this case, not guilty of that crime.Even though Jo was present throughout the book she wasn’t developed to the point of being suspect. Instead she served as the author’s decoy for the reader to think she was Toni. The book ended abruptly in a deus ex machina fashion. The villain came out of nowhere with a story and motivation that had nothing to do with the book. It was a side story that basically blindsided that reader and Toni.Nevertheless, it was entertaining like a decent movie that one can relax to over some popcorn.

Just BRILLIANT.
K.L. Slater's debut psychological thriller was already good, but Blink was just BRILLIANT. Basically I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to figure out what was going on, and I ended up being SO wrong about everything. This title is without doubt psychological thriller at its best! Excellent prose, excellent plot and plot twists, excellent use of suspense, excellent character development… Blink has all the right ingredients for a great story. The main characters are maybe not all that likeable, but I personally didn’t care. The fact that the main character seems to be paralyzed and in coma but is actually awake is truly fascinating and adds another excellent plot twist to the story. I loved every single minute of Blink and it doesn’t happen often that a plot is able to mislead me that much. More than recommended if you like the genre!

Hard to put down even when you have "things to do!" :)
"Blink" is all it's advertised to be: a psych thriller with a twist - hard to put down even when you have "things to do." ;) I enjoyed K.L. Slater's writing: fast and furious. I read the literature classic: "Wuthering Heights" as the "intellectual" book, going back and forth with Blink, depending on how much concentration I needed. "Blink" always won after my energy was spent at end of day. (I love Cathy and Heathcliff: both characters are literary immemorial.)Caveat: be careful reading reviews! One stupid woman exposed the "who dunnit!" and why! in her reader review! What a simpleton! "Spoilers" need to be required warnings in reviews; so NEVER expose the bad guy! Anyway, I recommend BLINK and wont tell you more!

Compelling, fast, and unexpected - you won't be able to put it down.
Five hours, start to finish - which put me exactly three hours and twenty minutes late for work - completely worth it! It's a quick read, fluid easy transitions, characters developed enough to get invested in without unnecessary depth (I get peeved at writers who feel they have to prove they took basic psych classes in college by over-developing characters but whatever). The book's ending was a bit unnecessarily complicated maybe but the relief at getting resolution more than made up for that. This is the kind of book that makes you wish there were a "Where are they now" resource just so you could check in how everyone from the book has fared. Beautifully done, K.L. Slater, kudos!

Brilliant!
Wow, I couldn’t put this down! It is so intriguing and a true Psychological Thriller. K.L. Slater certainly is the queen of this genre. She knows how to build suspicion on everyone in the book. You really don’t know what direction the book is going and are completely shocked by the outcomes! The first part consisting of ‘three years earlier’ chapters are interspersed with ‘the present’ whereby someone is paralysed from a stroke and is in hospital. This patient is telling you the story of what is currently happening; they are very much alive but trapped in their own useless body. The past chapters alternate between different people’s views of what is happening, and you are left wondering what is the truth and is Toni all that she is telling us? Is everything as it seems? I wanted to slap her for continually taking those tablets knowing how it was affecting her daughter. She made me quite mad.The second part of the book is set only in the present and again has different people’s perspectives. We have caught up on Toni’s past, and now we need to know what happened and what became of everyone. The writing of this book was very cleverly executed and like I say the twists at the end are superb and completely side-swiped me. Everything is explained and exposed. You are not left in the dark, but the book does end very abruptly. I turned the page expecting more, but it was over.A genuine five-star read and I’m so glad I’m finally getting around to reading some of K.L. Slater’s back catalogue. I think I only have three more to go!
