Deathstroke 1: Gods of War

DEATHSTROKE REBORN...
Writer/artist Tony Daniels spearheads another reboot of the DC universe’s favorite soldier of fortune. This is actually a reboot of a reboot as Deathstroke was also part of the original New 52 launch in 2011. Unfortunately, that one panned out (among others) after a promising start. A victim of DC not having enough talent in their stable to crank out 52 quality titles. This one looks good as Daniels has always been a better artist than writer. It contains the first six issues of the new series and reinvents Slade Wilson from an aging mercenary into an in-his-prime assassin. Yes, through some process that is yet to be explained – Slade was transformed into a much younger man. Look ma, no more grey hairs! His entire family also makes an appearance, from his daughter Rose, long lost son Jericho and his own father (AKA Odysseus) as a power-mad cult leader (a League of Assassins splinter group, i think). As expected from a DC title, Batman characters show up – Batman himself plus Harley makes a cameo taking on the new, younger Slade toe to toe. Bet on the Joker and/or Catwoman in the next volume. Lots of action – which is kinda rare in superhero comics these days. Recommended.

Better than I would have expected.
I liked this book more than I thought I would. I was waiting to be disappointed and just was not. If you are looking for an entry into the somewhat sparse collection of material centered on Slade Wilson this is a decent place to start. There are a few bits of context and history which I seem to be missing, but not so much that it handcuffs the narrative. The villain and their motivations are a tad derivative, but the relationship between the villain and the main character sort of hide that and makes is slightly more interesting. It is great to see a side of Slade Wilson most of us have never seen before and view him battling back foes rather than being the aggressor.

Lots of action
I have been skipping mainstream comics for the past several years, but I remembered Deathstroke from years ago and his first appearances in the Teen Titians. Well, times changes indeed. I recently started collecting the Batman Arkham hardcover collections and that has now spun off into Deathstroke and the Suicide Squad. I have read and loved Deathstroke's Vol I and Vol II. I now collect the comic as well. Tons of action. Not sure why they made him young again. Seemed kind of out of place in the storyline. Still, it was a welcomed return to Deathstroke.

The Deathstroke boss battle was my favorite as well as the Deathstroke character in the Arrow ...
I am a fan of Deathstroke ever since I started playing Arkham Origins. The Deathstroke boss battle was my favorite as well as the Deathstroke character in the Arrow Series, which made me want to get the graphic novel. This is the first comic book I read from Tony S. Daniel and I thought the story was very well thought out.

Action packed and entertaining.
This was a solid start to a series! At times it dragged a little bit, but that was few and far between. Overall a super entertaining read, and I'll definitely be reading vol. 2!

Pretty good read
One of my favorite adaptations of Deathstroke. It's a good place to star especially if you are getting into the character. Looking forward to reading volume 2

Quality product at a stroke
This is a classy upgrade.I've never been interested in Deathstroke as a solo act - too Wolverine in attitude, 'warrior-code' and healing factor - but this morphs Slade Wilson into a different, more engaging character whilst actually strengthening his history, family and supporting cast.It helps that the artwork is beautiful and the pacing is thrilling throughout. Not quite a complete overhaul but a intriguing revamp worthy of your attention.Recommended.

Don’t make me laugh.
I was more busy laughing at the character being butchered than reading a believable version of Deathstroke.

Get Slade, or Get Slayed!
While Slade's new look is questionable and pointless, I simply can't recommend this enough, if only for the A-List Team-up and Showdowns that occur that are so shocking and fun that I simply don't want to spoil!

Great read and great for a blank slate reader
Great read and great for a blank slate reader, reading previous death stroke books and having a previous understanding just makes this book better, a little confusing at times; but well worth the read.

Not happy
Not as advertised it states 272 pages it has less than half that. One of the Main reasons my son wanted this comic was the amount of pages for his money miss sold not happy
