Excellent product for trapping feral cats
Our rescue group traps feral cats so that they can be spayed or neutered. This product is excellent--well-designed, well-made, and easy to use. We've had great success with it.

This brand was recommended by the Trap
This brand was recommended by the Trap, Neuter, Return coordinator in our area. We had used a couple of her traps to trap feral cats and they worked quite well. We purchased one of our own for future feral cats that we are sure will turn up in our area!

The Best Traps
I have a feral cat colony I have to deal with, and for anyone using traps for TNR(trap, neuter, release),this is the company to buy from. From the well made traps, extra options(like a kitten screen you can place in the middle of the trap so you only catch kittens),to a drop trap that folds like a suitcase(and can even come with an optional remote control so you don't have to be pulling a string to trap),I will never buy a trapping product other than a Tomahawk. This one is a long trap, with a nice wide trap plate(I missed out on catching the mom of my colony, she's gone now,she stepped over a smaller plate to get the bait while pregnant, got the bait out of at least one more trap with a narrower plate that I know of,as well as barely escaping a drop trap),and the sliding door on the back that is great for when you let them go,as well as placing bait and getting a cat out of a drop trap(I would never use a trap like this without the back door). Don't mess around, just buy traps from Tomahawk, they've been doing this since 1925,and work with neighborhood groups to give them the products they want for TNR programs.

Trap didn't work when received.
Though the trap is sturdily built, the actual trap mechanism did not work properly. When engaging the door latch, the activating plate was still flat on the bottom of the trap. The engaging bar was too long. I had to make several adjustments to get the trap to work.

Although the sliding up/down rear door is a very nice feature, the front spring door does not shut ...
I work with a shelter TNR program. I purchased this trap because the sliding rear door looked promising. However, after evaluating it with another trapper, I am returning it. Although the sliding up/down rear door is a very nice feature, the front spring door does not shut flush (about 3/4" gap). A struggling animal could seriously hurt themselves in this gap. The mesh front trap door has catch spots, making it hard to set. Also, the spring is very tight, making it hard to set. We experimented with the trip pan and don't believe a kitten or lightweight animal could trigger it. Also the trigger rod is inside the trap - we were uncomfortable that an animal could hurt themselves on that in some way. If you use this trap, be careful to latch the rear door to the actual mesh - not the loop which looks like it's meant for the latch. If you attach it to the loop, there is a 1" bottom gap where, again, a struggling animal could hurt themselves. We searched Amazon and our supply catalogs for a better trap and decided to stay with our old standby - the 1099 Havahart trap. It's rear latch door isn't as easy to use, but for the safety of the animal, we felt this is the best on the market right now.

Works great but, presents a danger
After taking my trap out of the box, it took only minutes to familiarize myself with its operation. I set the trap, went into the kitchen, and my overly curious Gigi Marie (my cat) proved how well this devise works. She did not panic because she's at home, and had no reason to fear. Ten minutes later, I have the trap set on my patio with food placed beyond the trigger plate, and within five minutes, one of the neighborhood strays walks in, and the trap works again. Here is the problem. This stray cat panicked immensely, and damaged its front claws on the cage. I like how easy and well the trap works but, I need to fashion some sheet metal in the interior to make the environment a little safer for a scared kitty that will only succeed in hurting itself.Tomahawk, please modify your design by creating a smoother interior and make the trap safer for the kitty's.

Wonderful cat trap -- wish I had ordered the shorter one, but this is sturdy. And, it works -- we've trapped multiple feral cats using this to spay/neuter and return. Our kitten count is nearing zero....

Works well, Use a liner as paws will go thorugh the wire bottom.
Works as intended. Safely trapped three cats in my colony for TNR. The cage is quite heavy but if you are trapping a male cat this is the right size to use. Any smaller and he would probably be pretty uncomfortable. Make sure to use a heavy liner when trapping cats becuase their paws will go through the wire. Kittens will stick their entire leg out and this could lead to injuries when moving an occupied cage if you're not careful.
