Product Description Oh, my! Determined to present something "classy" for a change, Archibald Asparagus has taken over Veggie Tales. Assisted by those rascally French Peas, Archibald aims for new heights in "veggie programming" by attempting to produce "the world's first all-vegetable staging of Shakespeare's Hamlet," the first-ever "Classy Songs with Larry," and, for the grand finale, the world premier of what he believes to be Gilbert and Sullivan's "lost musical" - "Lyle, the Kindly Viking!" Of course, working with the French Peas as assistants is a recipe for disaster and, in the chaos - and hilarity - that ensues, Bob, Larry and Junior all learn a great lesson about sharing. Archibald, on the other hand, mostly just learns to never again work with the french peas. Don't miss Junior Asparagus as "Lyle, the Kindly Viking" in this hilarious Veggie Tales musical adventure! Your whole family will sing - and laugh - along as they learn that "sharing gets us more of what we really want - friends!" .com Well, it had to happen--Archibald Asparagus is hosting his own VeggieTales show. The 15th video from this groundbreaking Christian-lite company gives us plenty of what makes the series so much fun: leader Bob the Tomato, daffy Larry the Cucumber, catchy songs, and scattershot humor. Tired of the wacky ways of the normal VeggieTales shows, Archibald wants to inject an element of class. First up: an all-vegetable staging of Hamlet. Unfortunately, the only script that can be found is a slightly different version called "Omelet." The Bard's famous lines take a beating with the usual Monty Python-esque humor of the Veggie crew. Next, after an Archibald-influenced "Silly Songs with Larry" segment, the featured event of the evening proves to be the lost Gilbert & Sullivan musical Lyle the Kindly Viking. This brawny band of Vikings love their job (and have an affinity for big-screen TVs) but cannot understand why the meek Lyle (Junior Asparagus, natch) wants to share his meager belongings with their victims. Certainly, the sharing ways of Lyle will win the day. After such experiments as the Larry-Boy shows, which dropped the series' familiar opening and even Bob himself, this familiarly structured VeggieTales video is a joy to watch and illustrates how far the creators have come while sticking to their roots. Actually, closer to 4.5
Archiald Asparagus and the French Peas as hosts.... a perfect recepie for disaster and humor. Upset about the lack of culture on the show, Archie turns VT into an episode of Masterpeas Theater. *bad pun, I know...* The first feature is the first all Veggie production of Shakespear's classic "Omelete". A famine isin the land, and the citizens don't have enough to eat. Or at least not enough eggs. Prince Omlete has the last eggs in the kingdom, cooked light and fluffy. Will he learn to share his blessings, as God wants us to? Will the people of Denmark have eggs? This piece, aimed at the older 'children' viewers, paradies classic lines, King James English, and you get to find out how Elizebethian theatre is kind to VT's lack of female characters....Archie for the second time in VT histories vuts out the Silly Song bit. In it's place is "Classy Songs with Larry", the part of the show where Larrysings a classy song. The main feature is the first production of Gilbert and Sullivan's lost musical, "Lyle the Kindly Viking". Most of the vikings enjoy raiding the monastery and being 'the terrors of the sea', but the youngest member doesn't 'fit the Viking style'. Lyle is eventually found out to be giving his share of the booty back to the monks, as well as potholders. Can this bring something better than gold, money, and big-screen tv's? Will the other Vikings support him? Is Olaf finding out Lyle's biggest prolem? Now, to the DVD features. Anyone who has seen the extras and scrrens on "Countdown" and "Angry Eyebrows" would know that this is the first venture to DVD. The chapter selection has no background music. The quality of the extras are good, ut there are only 3. There's an interview of Phil and the director, widescreen version of the Classy Song, and a peek at animation develpomnet. All in all, a solid Veggie entry, though definatly not the best.

Great For Children while keeping adult interests.
This is a well done DVD with great animation and story telling. The characters get the message across while keeping kids interest with music and secondary stories to keep up with short attention spans. You will get caught up in the Music and fun as well.

VeggieTales - Lyle the Kindly Viking (DVD)
I have only had this DVD a short time and already got it memorized. My son (1 year old) will sit and watch this entire DVD and is esp. fond of the silly songs. I personally like him watching VeggieTales because they teach my child about God in a suttle way. The characters are the cutest.

Silly & Good!
There is not a lot of good out there. And this is the first VeggieTales DVD out there. If you like silly kids movies with a Christian message, this is the one to buy. And if you buy this one, the publishers might release the other great VeggieTales stories on DVD as well. Go for it. Blessing for kids is in your reach!

Not bad by any means, but not as good as other VeggieTales
Lyle the Kindly Viking in my opinion and the opinion of my kids (certainly at the time this came out or over the next few years afterwards) was pretty good, but not as good as Rack, Shack, and Benny or other VeggieTales. The DVD case is green, which is nice, and well made. The DVD contains some bonus features, which are also a plus. The only complaint might be the Lyle the Kindly Viking itself isn't as good as other VeggieTales. However, it is still a worthy addition to a VeggieTales collection.
