The Flush Down toilet seat and closing device is designed to fit all standard toilets with a water tank. High quality durable stain resistant solid plastic seats along with slow close technology. It will cut contact with your toilet seat in half and automatically close the toilet seat and lid for you when you flush your toilet. The Flush Down device is easy to install with no tools and is virtually invisible.

Great idea. Poor execution.
This is a great idea with poor execution.-The seat/lid feel extremely cheap.-The plastic seat bolts do not keep the seat from sliding regardless of how tight you make them.-The upper tank float guard is supposed to be bent to guide the tape cable that activates the system. It doesn't retain the bent position that I set it to.-Adjustment is extremely finicky.-Operation is pretty inconsistent.-The seat and lid are designed such that the plunger that pushes them shut must be depressed to a very accurate and repeatable position. The problem is that this position happens to be one where the center of gravity of the seat is just barely over the hinges. What this means is that the seat doesn't like to stay up some of the time because it is not far enough past the CoG.I got it to work consistently on my dual flush toilet, but only after applying my mechanical engineering degree and making some modifications. It now works pretty well, but I had to put a bunch of time into it and the lid still feels pretty cheap--no changing that. My suggestions to get this to work better:1) Use double-sided foam tape to secure the float cable guide to your upper tank. It is important when adjusting the mechanism that the amount of cable is properly set and does not change. If you use this stick tape to physically hold down the cable guide to the upper tank, the guide will not come unbent or move around like it did before. This modification perhaps made the biggest difference for me.2) There is a little plastic spring-loaded plunger that sits inside the hinge mounting bolt. There is a plastic cap that sits on this plunger and actually pushes the lid/seat. This cap relies on a press fit and does not fully seat easily. You must push this on very hard to make sure it doesn't move around later. I am guessing this is another contributor to why people say that the system works for a while and then just stops one day. It may be fully seating by itself over time, and so the system would need to be re adjusted. The simple fix is to just push it on harder.3) The triggering mechanism is basically just a stepped ledge, similar to how a sear is in a firearm. It is just a little lip that catches on the side of the hollow threaded feat hinge rod. When you flush the toilet, the float dropping in the upper tank pulls on a string which then pulls this lip off of the edge of the threaded rod. As received, both the threaded rod and the lip were very rough and probably just stamped from cheap steel parts. I took a hand file to both surfaces to clean them up and smooth them out so that they can slide on each other more easily. This was the final thing that made my setup finally work every time.Even with these changes, adjustment is still critical and does take some time. You can make this work, but you will have to be willing to put some time and energy into it. As received, this is a $25 product, not a $70 one and I wouldn't have given it such a low rating if it was priced accordingly. For what I paid, I expected better materials, better build quality, and a smarter design.

Amazing Customer Service!
The Flush Down arrived today and I set out to install it before any of the men of the house arrived home. This is for a toilet in the laundry room that is the most often used in the house and the dog considered it his personal drinking fountain. YUCK!The toilet seat itself is a very high quality and soft closing. The seat closing mechanism is not noticeable once installed. Customer service is top notch.I received an email from Thomas Reminga, Flush Down inventor and CEO, the day after I ordered this on Amazon. He included his phone number and a link to the company website that includes an installation video. I watched the short video twice before starting the install. It is easy to install, but takes a bit of adjustment to get it to work properly. Mine wasn't working.Frustrated, I called Thomas and he helped me understand how it works and what I was doing wrong. I also learned that there should have been an instruction sheet included in the box. I'm a visual learner and the step by step written instructions with photos would have saved Thomas from delaying his dinner while he assisted me.The only tool I needed was as screwdriver to remove the old toilet seat. Tools are not needed and really would not be of any help for installing the Flush Down. Once I got it properly installed it works GREAT! No more doggie water fountain. Here are some tips for getting it right the first time --If your toilet has a ball float, you will want to install the mechanism on the same side as the flush handle. The flush weight needs to have room to freely drop inside the tank.Make sure the threaded metal rod does not stick up above the oval plastic piece when connected. The plastic "shark tooth" on the mechanism rod should NOT slip inside the bottom of the threaded tube. (This was what I did wrong)Be aware that this only works to close the lid and seat together. It is designed for forgetful men. It will not close the lid if the seat is already down. I purchased this as a house warming gift for my daughter and son-in-law. I suspect they will be purchasing more for their other toilets.Update; I incorrectly stated that this would not close just the lid. It does! So forgetful ladies, this product is for you as well.

It works, but ......
First of all it is a fantastic idea, and I am glad that I bought it. I wanted to give it 5 stars because it is a commercial version of something I made in a makeshift fashion for a toilet 20 years ago and I love what it does. I never pursued making it because of the wide differences between toilets. The reason for the three is not really the inventor's fault. In my new home the toilets follow the very popular trend of reducing the waste of water by reducing the amount of water in the tank. Look at this fill line, only goes half way up. Why does that matter? it means very little travel afforded to the weight that gets its power from sinking to the bottom of the thank. With perhaps half the older style tank water level it has an almost impossibly small window of opportunity for making the right adjustments. There is just barely enough distance afforded for the mechanism to pop the trigger to cause the close and then reset itself. It took a couple of hours to do. The good news is that it does work.

Great when it works
I love this product when it works. I did have the same problem that the seat would fail every now and then. I fixed this by adding an adhesive glue(not quick drying) around the plastic bolts to keep them from loosening. It seemed like a bigger person (like myself 250+) shifted the seat to a point where the spring action was getting caught up. I also used channel locks to get an extra tightness but not Hercules tight because they are plastic. I would probably recommend plumbers tape (for tightness not watersealing) instead of an adhesive glue so that the parts are not permanently screwed up if done incorrectly. It's been about a month since I did that and no failures, which means I haven't been yelled at in a month 😎
