This was a gift for my Mom whose Dad was cited in the book. She loved it. She knew several of the people mentioned and was fascinated to read about their actions during her childhood.

Insightful, informative and a great reference source to the titled subject matter. Using this book as a spring-board to our future by understanding our past reflects well on our perservation of our heritage and not just the consuming of it. Diversity of color as stated by last paragraph on page 239, is promising with the election of our first black President, first black Congresswoman- Mia Love- and those like Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal that reflect convervative America. For this white , aging American , I see promise and hope for our future independent of color. Thank you Dr Foley for this fine reference source. especially for those who seek answers to our past. Should be a must read for all students of social studies at all levels of education.
