Update: 10 months later and I still love this phone and stand by my original review:I love this phone! It's an upgrade from my previous Samsung 5S. I've had it for a little over a month now.The battery life is great. Easily goes a full day on a charge, sometimes as much as two full days (while regularly in use, not idle).The RAM is great compared to my previous phone. Games run smoothly and there hasn't been any lag. The display is nice. The cameras are better, though I haven't yet used them to their full potential. (I just use it to snap quick photos usually, sometimes a video.)The only thing I don't particularly like in the miui system is how the keyboard swype works. The Samsung one makes it way easier to type than this one. I've played around with the settings but it's still a little weird. Maybe it's better if you don't use the swype option on this one. Other than the swype function, everything else about the keyboard is better than the samsung (emoji, gifs, kaomoji, etc.). Maybe they'll have an update to fix the issue at some point.I worried that this phone would be too big but I haven't had any problems with the size at all. The phone comes with a silicone case and that's nice. I thought I'd buy a different one anyway (like an otterbox type case) but surprisingly haven't felt the need to yet. The phone feels very secure in my hands even in this case.I have AT&T and haven't had problems.I got the 128gb phone and haven't felt the need to use external storage yet. I might try out the dual sim slot when I travel next month, but for now can't say much about it since I haven't used it yet.Overall, I highly recommend this phone to anyone looking to switch!!! Especially if you don't want to spend a huge amount. P It's affordable and I like it more than Samsung or Apple phones, which are way more expensive. Xiaomi is doing it right!

This phone was great. I've recommended it to dozens of people and after swimming with it, I bought a new one.The battery was great. While under light use would often last 4 or even 5 days. While being used more of less constantly about two days.I found the phone to be durable, I drop phones constantly, and it held up well to that. I thought it had pretty good water resistance, it became submerged a few times and was fine. It did die from being in water but it had been in my pocket while I swam for at least 30 minutes. The little guy even turned on for a bit after that.The phone came with a bit of bloatware, but I would say significantly less than the industry standard.The performance was great, everything happened more or less instantly and this never changed. It ran the most demanding mobile games on ultra settings and loaded them in an instant.Can't say more about this phone. I loved it.

*********Update********Just wanted to update... I have now had this phone about 13 mths. No breaks, cracks, or any of that. I am STILL FINDING NEW THINGS on this phone just when I think I have been everywhere. I hike a little so the emergency alert I can send out to my Fire Dept guys if somethg happens is awesome. It opens the mic, gives them the coordinates and it will send to everyone you have included so. It does more but I just wanted to update to let you know that I'm still raving about this phone & my personal experience has been great.******************Ok, so I did want a Samsung to be honest and didn't want to make payments on phone for a year or 2. I came across this brand that I hadn't heard of and researched the good bad and ugly and finally just not the bullet and ordered it. God, I LOVE THIS THING! If someone tried to take it away now there would be blood shed. It's not as fragile as I thgt it was gonna be, it's not as hard to use as I thgt. If you have had an Android phone then you already know how to use it. Don't let all the other talk scare you off like it almost did me. I've not got to use the phone as much as I would like but from what I have I love it. I can't say enough good things about it. I have the 128gb and its so fast, the gaming is crazy good as well as videos so the colors and resolution is amazing. You'll not be disappointed.

Great phone. Negatives are strangeness of the miui for someone used to "standard" Android, and huge amount of BLOATWARE and ads due to Mi and Google duplication. BLOATWARE and ads are reason for 4 Stars not 5.Due to the strangeness of UI and vast multitude of settings, I would not recommend to someone who just wants a generic Android phone. You need to be willing to dig through settings to clean it up and make it really a great phone.

This phone is the total package: high performance for a very reasonable price. The first thing you notice is how light and slim it is for packing such a powerful punch. The screen covers almost all of the phone's from surface space and the design is simple and straightforward. The battery lasts for a very long time. I am a moderate user and I can go for two whole days without having to refill. This phone's performance is incredible due mostly to the powerful gaming processor that runs it. It is very efficient, which is part of the reason for the long battery life, and I have not experienced lagging after a couple of months' use. It also helps that it comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, which is huge...more than I need. The apps open fast and run smoothly. It runs the Mi version of Android 9 with the most recent updates. Connectivity is also great as it has WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC. It even has a 3.18 Jack to connect headphones, which is not common these days, and a radio antenna. It comes with many integrated maintenance and security tools, such as a cache cleaner, memory booster and antivirus software. It even comes with three games preinstalled. I have not fully integrated into the Mi environment due to my own security concerns, but if you sign up for a Mi account you will have access to very convenient cloud space for backup and storage purposes. All in all, I love this phone and would recommend it to anyone.
