Totally worth the price tag!
I am really impressed by this product. Right out of the box I could tell it was well-made and would be far more durable than my last two models have been. After buying cheaper products that just stopped working after awhile, I have been so glad I purchased this Dogtra IQ product!Things I Love:~ How reliably the receiver communicates with the remote, even at a distance. The cheaper ones seem to fail regularly in this regard.~ The quality construction and the truly waterproof design. I try to take it off before my pup goes in the water just because I worry about it breaking, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way, and even after some pretty lengthy swims it continues to work.~ The wide variation of settings for the static correction. You should only use the lowest setting that works to deter your dog. I find that 25-30 is more than sufficient for my 50 lb dog. He doesn't jump or yelp or even twitch his ears, but he does refocus his attention on me, which in my book is the perfect setting.~The receiver is smaller than many models, and on my dog, it is hard to even see once he has it on, which I like a lot. I don't need people with easy-going golden retrievers judging me for having this collar on my super smart, high energy border collie-aussie mix.~After using cheaper collars, all of which I tested out on myself to be sure I wasn't using a high setting I couldn't tolerate comfortably on my precious pup, I find that this collar's "shock" setting is incredibly smooth and consistent, and less uncomfortable than the cheaper ones. I don't know how to explain it properly, but I just feel much more comfortable using this model on my beloved dog. I don't ever want to hurt him; I just want to have the option of reminding him he needs to listen during those rare times he forgets his manners =)The Only 2 Cons I have Found:~ I wish the page (vibrate) mode was a bit stronger. I find it is very weak overall on this model. The cheaper collars I used had the option of dialing the vibration mode up from 1-100, and I did LOVE that. I prefer to use the shock as little as possible, and my dog responds well to vibration as long as he can feel it. I feel like with the cheaper collar I was able to use the vibrate option more and therefore the shock option much less, and that is my preference. He can still feel the vibration, but there is no way if he spotted a prarie dog that this weak vibration would deter him. That said, I am able to use a pretty low shock setting effectively on my dog, and I have tried it on myself and it feels like a tiny static electric tingle, so I know I am not truly hurting my dog when I do need to use it.~I wish this utilized a normal collar with a click type design rather than the rugged buckle. I take my dog out multiple times a day, and I don't like leaving it on him all the time. I wish it was easier to get on and off. This is a minor issue in my book, but still worth mentioning.Overall I think these collars are amazing, and this one in particular is worth the cost without a doubt. I know some people tend to frown upon these corrective collars, but I have personally found it to be the most useful tool in correcting dangerous behaviors such as deer and prarie dog chasing. Where I live we also have rattlesnakes, so I feel much better knowing that I can halt my dog's predatory chasing behavior if it is ever necessary. I can't rave enough about how much better my dog has become. I find I rarely have to use the collar anymore, but whenever we go out off-leash, it's always on just in case. I think its super important to continue using tons of positive reinforcement while using this collar, and always heartily praise your dog when he restrains himself from doing something you know he wants to do but shouldn't! My dog used to chase bikers, joggers, and even cars sometimes, and he has completely stopped with those behaviors. We can now go on even the most heavily used mountain biking and hiking trails and I don't have to worry about him taking off after a group of mountain bikers. I have more piece of mind, my dog has tons more freedom, and our relationship is certainly better. When used properly, this collar is truly a lifesaver!!!!!UPDATE: Have now had this for 2.5 years, and it still works like it's brand new. Though I used to use it almost everyday to help with his manners on our off-leash hikes, I rarely need it now because my pup is such a good boy. I'm actually using it now (just the vibrate feature) on my newly adopted 2nd dog to help sharpen up her recall, and it's working like a charm for her, too! I can't say enough good things about this remote trainer. The extra cost is absoltuely worth it for such a high quality product!

Not a shock, behavior improved immediately
We recently purchased the Sportdog 425 collar for our Bullmastiff mix and the Dogtra IQ Remote Trainer for our Bichon. Both collars have a long range, 500 yards for the Sportdog and 400 yards for the Dogtra. For 2 months of the winter we live in the Florida panhandle at a very dog friendly beach. That is why we need the extra range. Both dogs have been trained to verbal commands so these were not purchased to train the dogs. When they are on the beach we like to let them run loose as this is the only time they get to run unless we go to a dog park. Both dogs know to come when called but if they see another dog, they are off. The little one is not as well trained as the big one and when she takes off he follows her lead even though he knows better. That being said both of these collars are great for getting their attention. We purchased the Sportdog 425 first for the big dog a week before purchasing the Dogtra IQ for the small dog. We were hoping to get by with a less expensive model for the little dog, but that turned out to be a piece of crap and a separate review. Even though the Bullmastiff is a 90 pound dog the 2 setting on nick gets his attention. I hardly ever have to use the nick button because he responds most of the time to the tone. There are really only 2 things I don't like about the Sportdog. One is to use the vibrate you have to turn the dial to V/T. That changes the nick and continuous buttons to vibrate. To return to the shock you have to turn the dial and that is not real easy. The other thing I don't like is the cheap plastic collar. The collar was very long and several inches had to be removed for the big guy. The holes are very close together so it is hard to make sure you get it in the correct position every time. I think a quick release collar would work much better, then you could adjust it once and be done. And quick release collars are just plain easier to use than buckles. Also it may not last that long with the constant bending to get it buckled. The only thing I can say good about this collar is it would be easy to clean and maybe that's the point if it's primarily for hunting dogs. One of the things I like best about the Sportdog is the company sells replacement parts for about everything, including the rechargeable battery. Not sure about the Dogtra IQ but you can send it back to the manufacturer for repair. The charge on the battery does last a long time. So far we have only been charging it once a week. The charge on the Dogtra is lasting about the same so far. We do take the collars off and turn it off when the dogs are in the house. The Sportdog also comes with two sets of prongs, short and long for smaller and larger dogs, the Dogtra comes with one set. Both collars come with a lanyard for convenience. Both units come with a dual wall charger so the receiver and transmitters can be charged at the same time. Both have a one-year warranty. They both turn on and off. Once they are on they stay on. They don't have to "wake up" like some of the less expensive collars. The main reason we purchased the Dogtra IQ for the small dog is that it was recommended for small dogs. Actually, the receiver is about the same size for both collars but the Dogtra weighs .8 ounce more than the Sportdog. I would guess that the main reason it is recommended for small dogs over the Sportdog is the shock settings are much more adjustable on the Dogtra than the Sportdog. Having tested the collars myself, the 20 setting on the Dogtra is less stimulating than the 1 setting on the Sportdog. The Dogtra doesn't have a tone. It has a vibrate, nick and continuous button. So far we have only used the vibrate on the Bichon. The Dogtra has the exact same cheap collar as the Sportdog. Both transmitters are about the same size. The Dogtra does have a comfort adapter that can be purchased for an additional $17. If it seems the collar is irritating the Bichon's neck then I will try that. The collar can be adjusted down to about 3 inches so the collar size is not an issue for anyone.Update: we've had the collars about a month now and they are working great. I originally said the collar part was cheap plastic. I've changed my mind about that. We had another that was cheap plastic that ended up breaking from use. These must have something else in them because they don't look like they will break. I would still prefer a quick release but they all seem to come with buckles. The Dogtra does not seem to irritate the Bichon's neck at all. Neither dog seems to mind wearing their collar. They both respond to the tone or vibrate. Have never shocked the Bichon and only rarely the Bullmastiff mix.

Love it!!!!!!!!
We had this collar on our dog for a year now and we love it. We have a miniature golden doodle. About 23 lbs full grown. We have used this on him since he was 5 months all. It works amazing!!!!! Instead of buying electric fence we decided to use the collar to teach our dog where to go and where not. It worked amazing. It has a level from 0 to 100. For our dog for the shock we found best works at about 80. We only honestly shocked him maybe 3 times in that hole process. Now all we use is the vibrating button if he doesn't listen. Usually though we don't even have to press it. As soon as he sees us pick up the remote he does what he is told. I would definitely recommend this product to any dog owner that is looking to train their dog and for behavioural issues.

Wow!! New dog!
We had originally bought the barking collar that was absolutely perfect for stopping our dog to bark! After a while he started crawling and the collar had no effect! With this one you can teach your dog to stop doing all those annoying things in minutes! We've ha this collar for a month now and we can train the dog to do pretty much everything we want! Absolutely worth the money and really easy to use!!!

Works Great
We purchased this training collar as our 1 year old dog started to wander off in the woods chasing sents and not coming when called. We use the shock and she immediately runs back towards us. We maybe shocked her in total three times and now the vibrate is all she needs. I was resistant about using a shock collar but it has definitely worked for what we needed it to do.
