Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare Vol. 2

Harsh content but so good
~4 Stars(Contains light spoilers.)There's a really harsh moment in this volume, just as a warning. We officially meet Misora, a boy who likes dressing as a girl. This introduces a new aspect to the story, as Misora states he's not gay, he just likes dressing as a girl—and also explores the idea of not really knowing who he is yet. He's younger than Tasuku, and gives Tasuku a moment to help and be there for someone going through something similarly difficult. It all goes down when Tasuku and Misora go out to a festival. Misora is confronted with a harsh part of being a woman, and he doesn't quite handle it well—not that anyone should, really. But he reacts by blowing up at Tasuku, in a very public, harsh way.I appreciate the point of view that Misora presents here, but I don't particularly care for the way he talks. He's very brash with his words, which perhaps Tasuku needs. He blatantly uses the f word, and how he treats Tasuku when he freaks out is just not okay. It was a really hard moment to read.It also looks like Tasuku's crush is going to do something in the next volume. It's unclear where he stands on these things, but I suspect we'll find out soon.I am really glad that this is being released. I think it's an important story. Plus, the artwork is gorgeous—I love the imagination used here. And those color pages at the beginning of this volume are just gorgeous.

A good start for 2 of them, but then disaster.
Shuji confused me. Seemed to be having such a great time at the festival in the yukata, in the accompaniment of Tasuku. Then what seemed to be a random act by a perverse stranger, & Shuji completely blew up, publicly, & accosted Tasuka, then yelled horrible things, then ran away. I'm unsure if what appeared to be a groping set off Shuji, or something else? Possibly some past abuse? I though Shuji looked ravishing. Did Shuji suddenly feel Tasuku had ill intent? Or intended to take advantage of Shuji? Or was it because Tasuku told the guy he likes that Shuji was his cousin? Hopefully, answers will come next volume. I liked the way this volume went. It helped explained where Shuji was coming from, & it also gave some insight into Tasuka & the boy he likes. I look forward to the next volume. I highly recommend this series for any teens/preteens who have gender/sexuality questions, or have feelings they don't understand. I also recommend this series to anyone who wants a better idea of the struggles those of the LGBTQ+ community go through.

still highly recommended
In this volume, our main character Tasuku starts looking outward to learn more about the other people at the drop-in center -- particularly Misora, who likes wearing dresses but doesn't know how they identify. Without getting too much into spoilers, this volume explores the struggles that come from trying to understand yourself, including both the internal frustrations and the externals conflicts that can result. While the focus is on Misora and Tasuku, we also start seeing more of Tsubaki, the boy Tasuku likes. Overall, this volume can be painful to read, but there's an important conversation occurring within the story: just because two people are both queer doesn't mean they inherently understand each other and aren't capable of hurting each other. The art is stunning as ever. Kamatani is a master of visual metaphor and they really flex those muscles in this volume with a fishbowl motif. Really, you just have to look at that beautiful cover to know you're in for a treat. Still highly recommended for anyone interested in LGBTQ stories, thought-provoking drama, or great imagery.

Great and realistic LGBT manga (I'll put this review for the other 3 books that I also purchased)
It's a wonderful manga series with good LGBT character depictions. The art is really pretty and I like it alot and story is good. My only complaint is how short it is (4 volumes only) and you can knock them out in a few hours. The characters go through struggles LGBT in real life would face like acceptance of loved ones, bulllying and shaming, and discrimination but it also shows how these characters form their own community called the Lounge where they can be themselves. Good ending I'll say but good doesn't mean it's a happy or sad ending so I'm just telling you it's good

You only got hurt because….
Bad things only happen to you because you are cute.Because you are a women.Because you are….Because it shouldn’t feel uncomfortable or scary. They say that, as if erasing the existence of the victim is easier. We are too weak to confront the perpetrators, so we turn our blame onto the victim instead.

The Continuation of a Wonderful Series
I first discovered this series on a bootleg manga translation site and I adored it since then. I'm so glad that I can finally support the original artist with their amazing work! The translation provided by Seven-Seas is extremely good and I can't wait for the next volume!

An excellent second volume, the artwork never ceases to amaze
I am always taken aback by how beautiful the artwork in Our Dreams at Dusk is. Not just the artwork itself, but the composition - the recurring themes of water that flow throughout the book and add a dreamlike quality to the art, and the expressiveness of the characters which tells us what they're feeling without having to resort to words. On top of that, this volume gives us a chance to get to know some of the other supporting characters and pushes the underlying plot forward in interesting ways; I can't wait for the next volume so that we can start to see more of Tasuku's crush. Our Dreams at Dusk is a must-buy!
